Although it was a rather tiresome journey to get to and from the hotel; plane, bus, train, boat and taxi, it was a very happy holiday when we arrived. The scenery was beautiful and it was next door to Napoleon's summer residence. The beach was lovely with nice loungers, and umbrella and basic shower and toilet facilities. There was however only the choice of going for the whole day or not going at all if you didn't have a car. Portoferraio was a bus ride away and we spent several happy days exploring it but again without a car it would have been difficult to visit the rest of the island. The last bus back to the hotel was about 7.40pm so not late enough to eat in the town in the evening. The food in the hotel, though quite expensive, was absolutely delicious and we ate there on several occasions. The breakfast was ample and pleasant but mostly cereal, tinned fruit, cake and toast and jam. Don't expect a cooked breakfast. There was a very pleasant pool with pool side loungers and umbrellas, again set in beautiful surroundings. A very delightful holiday, pleasant hotel and friendly, helpful staff.
This hotel is a 30 minute bus ride from Portoferraio and not in the town centre. It is a tiny place with a small beach. It is a family run the hotel and they genuinely want your stay to be a happy one. There is nothing that they would not do for you. A packed breakfast which would feed an army was presented to us because we were leaving just before breakfast. It has to be said the view from our room was spectacular. The website photos do not do it justice. You should stay here, unwind and enjoy the hospitality. Very suitable location for everyone, great gardens, 5 minute walk to the village. You woudl need a car if you want to travel around the island.
We stayed for one week, half board and had a wonderful time. It is very pretty hotel/marina with views across the bay and well placed from which to explore, by car, the whole island. Transport is really a necessity to see this beautiful island? We chose half board because there are no other restaurants within walking distance. But we didn't expect the high quality of the restaurant. It had a la carte menu, and the food offered to half board customers was really good and fantastic value. Thanks to all the staff.

The Villa Accommodation is lovely 5 Star and is what is shown in most of the photographs on the websites
The Hotel Accommodation is AWFUL - not even 3 star. We booked what we thought was a deluxe room in the Villa, but runs out was in the Hotel. We had to upgrade at 70 euros per night because the Hotel room was very poor, no bath in the bathroom, no view.
Buyer beware - check you are in Villa Ottone not Hotel Villa Ottone.
Also booked through Expedia and that turned out to be £25/ night more expensive than booking direct would have been.
Once in the Villa accommodation the holiday was fabulous. Sea view, Piano playing on the veranda in the evenings - Wonderful. Reception staff were poor - All other staff were lovely.
It's a shame to write a review like this, but I dont want others to make the same mistakes as us.
