“Good Hotel”
The hotel is not easy to get to when you are driving in from the south, but it is a good hotel to stay at in Porto if you don't want to drive around during your stay. The hotel has a garage and that is where the car stayed during the 3 days we were there. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and the room was very comfortable by european standards. It is an easy walk to the old town area and right next to a great shopping avenue. Tour buses stop right in front of the hotel and there are great places for breakfast within less than 5 minutes walk. Porto is full of good restaurants very reasonably priced, but in the hotel vacinity there are not too many. Need to walk a bit if you want to find something opened after 8:00. Great places by the waterfront about 25 minutes walk. Take a cab to come back.
“Great hotel, great location”
the room was clean, stuff very friendly (english, french speaking), great location
“Kylie”
Great location, very good price and one of the best rooms we stayed in on our month holiday in Europe would recommend this hotel to any friend or family member
“Good break in Porto”
Excellent location near shopping area, river front and station for day trips. All staff friendly and helpful, and spoke very good English.
“Great location”
Loved the City and would definitely go back there. The hotel was in a busy location at the top of a steep hill with the hop on and hop off bus stop opposite. I would highly recommend the two day bus pass as it very hilly there and it takes you to all the major attractions. There are very resonable cafes and restaurants outside the hotel so would recommend having your meals in them rather than the hotel. The room was small but adequate and the bed was very comfy and the rooms were fairly soundproofed.
“Good hotel value in historic sector of Porto”
This hotel is on the Batahla Square in old Porto, approximately a five minute walk to the Sao Bento subway station on the D-Line [steep uphill return]. The hotel is within walking distance of many historic buildings and sites. Dependent upon room location, the proximity to the square and late night activity may be too noisy for some, but we interpreted it simply as the local character; our large room overlooked the square. We were there a week and didn't have any significant negative issues. The hotel services and cleaning service was very good and the multilingual reception staff was extremely helpful. The breakfasts were good and the selection at the restaurant was ample and moderately priced. Overall, we would recommend the hotel; good value hotel in an older part of a fun city.
“Great Centrally-Located Hotel”
This hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to major attractions, good restaurants, and shopping. The staff was friendly & helpful, even when we discovered at check-in that somehow there was a double booking for us. They quickly sorted it out and cancelled the extra room with little fuss. The breakfast room had a nice view overlooking the city, and there's a cozy little bar that was perfect for a late-afternoon libation. The hotel is perched at the edge of the cathedral district, with the Se seemingly just around the corner. The metro is easily accessible, allowing you to travel quickly to other parts of the city & across the river to the port houses.
“Good ovearall hotel”
i liked the stray at this hotel. The breakfast buffet was included in the price and the buffet was alright. i stayed ina duoble room and the size was good. The only thing i would complain about is the comfort of the pillows. they were not comfortable, so i had problems getting a good night sleep, but all in all everything was fine. The service of the hotel was OK, staff was friendly and i walked everywhere. The hotel is sitauted really nicely, walking distance to the cathedral and Ribeira and the center of the city.
“Small room but convenient to everything.”
The room was extremely small but we managed. The small balcony helped out tremendously with giving us fresh air and another place to go when both of us tried to move around the room. It was a bit tricky but the convenience of the location and the friendliness of the staff made up for it. It does however overlook a pretty loud street at night so if you plan to go to bed early you may want to stay elsewhere. We enjoyed the music and the people and walking the streets.
“Nice hotel, terrible service, horrible city”
The Mercure Porto is a clean modern hotel in a fairly good location. The room is neat and modern but really extremely small. The location is relatively good but I have to say that I did not like Porto at all - little alleyways on steep hillsides are normally nice but not when they are filled with broken glass, urine, vomit, guano and stinking aggressive beggars - go to Lisbon instead.... I also had an issue with check-in. I booked a double bed non smoking room. At check in I was told that there were no double non-smoking rooms available. I had to chose between a smoking double or a non-smoking twin. The receptionist also had a non-my-problem attitude which was unhelpful.
