“Fantastic hotel - Fantastic service!!!”
This was on of the best stays in a hotel!!! We stayed in one of the suites which was lovely and the whole hotel was so tatsefully decorated. The bar was really trendy and breakfast was great. The staff at reception could not help us enough and were so friendly. We were even able to stay later than checkout as our flight wasnt until the evening. I would definitely return as I thoroughly enjoyed it and could not fault it - Hotel should be more than a 3 star!
“Grand Hotel”
My room, though tiny, was very clean and comfortable. The view from the window was very poor. I overlooked several buildings that looked like they were abandoned. Staff for the most part were friendly and professional. Breakfast was excellent with a good variety of high quality food. I ate one dinner at the hotel and the food and service was excellent. Location was convenient. During the day, it appears to be a safe area. Unfortunately, I encountered several beggars and street people during the early evening. Not an area for anyone to be walking alone. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
“Shabby rooms nice sitting rooms etc.”
The lobby is small, everything seemed smaller than in the photos, but the dining room and sitting room as well as hall ways were tastefully classic, with some Chinese motifs. The bar tenders were friendly, and decent tea service for those who don't drink. Complaint is the room. Very low water pressure and water temp did not hold steady at all. Also had to change from the first room they gave me, uneven floors, squishy feeling when walking on carpet, not a solid feel under my feet. Pay an extra fee to use the in room hotel safe, so don't appreciate the nickel and dime approach to customer service. This hotel is worth a one time visit/ stay because of its link to a grander period.
“Good all round hotel”
Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The public rooms were lovely in traditional portugese style. The photographs on their website do not do them justice. Bedrooms were of a much more modern, slightly minimilast style with very, very comfortable beds. Shower room was adequate, slightly small but with toiletries provided. Everthing was very clean. Extra bkankets and pillows were provided. Only real niggle with room/hotel was the poor lighting in the room. Making it Difficult to read in the evening. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice from the buffett which was constantly replenished, albeit slowly sometimes. We were very pleased with our choice of hotel and would certainly return there and would recommend it to others. Excellent value for money!
“What a find!”
A delightful old world charm hotel, right in the centre of Porto & although it was in a pedestrian precinct it was very quiet at night. It was only a walk to most of the sites, although a steep one back! The staff in the hotel were very pleasant & helpful, although there was a very grumpy waiter at breakfast time. Breakfast buffet was excellent & the dining room was beautiful. Our room was quite adequate but did not have the charm of the downstairs rooms, but was fine for us as we spent most of our time exploring. One unexpected surprise was a bottle of fizzy wine & fresh fruit delivered to our room as it was my birthday - a really lovely gesture. We though the hotel was extremely good value for money & the transfer to & from the hotel faultless, especially the lovely Mercedes they used! We would certainly use this hotel again & as it was the first time we had used Expedia we were also very impressed with the sevice they offered. All in all a very successful five day break.
“Nice hotel in a good location”
I liked this hotel. It is an old building but reasonably maintained. The restaurant is good although not cheap. The staff were friendly and the location is good. The only negatives are that the room I had was small and you have to pay for Wifi.
“Nice hotel but rooms on the small side”
Hotel is in a good location in the main shopping street. The hotel is luxuriously appointed with a beautiful bar area. Buffet breakfast is fine. Rooms however are on the small side but nothing to complain about. Nice bathroom. Good value in this area.
“I would return to this hotel and would recomend it to others”
Very good service. Exceptionally clean rooms. Wonderful breakfast in fantastic dining room. Good central location with Majestic Cafe a few steps away and the Ribera riverside area approx 15/20 mins walk. All in all a very pleasant place to stay. Maybe they could put a few pictures on the walls in the bedrooms.
“Excellent value city hotel”
Old fashioned hotel right in the centre of Porto. Staff excellent. Extremely good value. Rooms could be brighter
“Great location”
We easily walked to the hotel from the train station. The room we were given at first was very small and we asked if they had a larger one available. We were then given a another room which was much larger, at no extra charge. All in all, the room was very comfortable, although the bed was a little hard. It was very clean and looked recently painted. The furnishings were modern (maybe from Ikea?) which was a little odd for the oldest hotel in Porto. Breakfast was served in an elegant dining room and was very good. From the hotel, we were able to walk almost everywhere we wanted to go, including the Ribeira area. We enjoyed our stay at the Grande Hotel do Porto.
