“Too old for your money.”

This a run down hotel that needs to find a way to get the smell out of the hallways and rooms. I am not a picky person, but for the price you can find a better hotel up the same street for a few dollars more. They have tried to upgrade the hotel rooms, but they did not find a way to make it feel clean. Nice buidling and good location, but not worth the money.

“The Benson Hotel is a warm and elegant home away from home.”

It starts when you walk into the dark wooden, ornate lobby; you are taken back in time. The warmth of the lobby is embracing. The same warmth is personified in the friendly, knowlegable and helpful staff. Some would say civility is lost on modern society; not at the Benson.

The Andina in Portland's Pearl District is an absolute must! Novoperuvian cuisine. It will rock your world.

“Beautiful Hotel!”

The Benson is a lovely old hotel with oodles of charm and comfort. The staff, service and conveniences are top notch and the location is excellent- close to shopping, rail service and lots of great things to do. We would return in a flash.

“Downtown charm”

Nice (100 year old) hotel with historical charm. Staff very professional, friendly and helpful. Close to downtown and within easy walking distance to shopping, dining and public tranportation to other parts of Portland. Parking rates somewhat exorbitant, but otherwise offerred a pleasant stay.

“Great Weekend Experience”

We stayed here while running the Portland Marathon. The hotel is beautiful and it's conveniently located to everything in downtown. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. They even accommodated our request for a late check out. I'd be glad to stay here again.

“Beware”

This is a beautiful and well maintained hotel. The staff were great. The problem is the hotel is very near the less desirable part of town and the windows are not well insulated from sound. I was awoken on multiple nights to the sound of screaming and foul ranting by a homless man across the street. This went on for hours. After the 3rd night I complained. The hotel staff were responsive to my complaints and agreed to have night security and bellman watch out for this. I just wish they had been more proactive.

Area recommendations

The downtown area especially around Nordstrom has lots to see. The weekend market by the river and the rose garden are a must.
