“Long in the tooth, but the food was great.”
This hotel has been there a long time. The brightest part of my stay was the breakfast in the restaurant. It cost $7.50 and included coffee. The chef took great care and detail. When the waitress placed the food on my table, it looked as tasted like a Million $$$.
“The restaurant was the hotel's best feature. The facility of the dining room and hotel needed work.”
We were very pleased with the service and quality of food at the restaurant in the hotel. It was in an old tall ship motif, which was neat, but some of the wood work needed sanding and refinishing. The service in the hotel was fine, but the arrangement of rooms was pretty inconvenient. You had to walk a rather long hallway to get outside in the elements and then another walk around the building to get to the main hotel area. Also, the carpet needed replacing, and with a design and color that is pleasing to the eye, that is coordinated with the walls. The one presently looks like something out of an old west movie or a mortuary.
“In the neighborhood”
While visiting our children and grandchildren in the VanCouver Wa. area we needed a place to stay. The Red Lion in the VanCouver downtown area was close to their home and served us well. The room was clean, comfortable, affordable, and the restaurant servered a great breakfast. The staff was all very friendly and courteous. The outside area needed some serious cleanup, but we overlooked that part and considered it a reasonable value. Yes, we would stay there again on future visits.
“IT was OK”
The hotel itself looks to be in the process of a remodel . Our room was nice however maid service didnt happen and when we asked we were told anyone staying more than one night doesnt get daily cleaning or even new towels !! The restaurant in the hotel was ok ~~ The club was fun and the band they had playing that night was a lot of fun. Hotel is in walking distance to a lot of things!! We didnt get to use the pool but it looked to be ok --- just a pool though no hottub!
“great expedia price, easy freeway access for Portland shopping”
Hotel was great for the expedia deal we received. the room was comfortable and clean. we didn't use much for the facilities. the neighborhood was fine--on the river, restaraunts nearby. the trains do run most of the night though so if you are not on the riverside you will hear them.
“Mediocre and poorly maintained”
This hotel may have once been nice, but now it is run down and poorly maintained. I was sent to multiple dirty rooms before they found a clean one. The pool was murky and hot. On the day that I left there was no hot water. The windows point right on to the pool, but the shades are either translucent or blackout--so either you have privacy or sunlight. The hotel was basically cheap, and the people working there were nice though usually uninterested. I wouldn't recommend it.
“Where did the Red Lion go?”
For years as a business traveler I have regarded Red Lion as a trusted brand. This weekend I realized those days may be over. After a less than enthusiastic welcome to the property on the Quay in Vancouver, Washington it was apparent the Lion wasn't feeling the love. The hotel showed it's age— and not well! In our room our first chore was to dust the tortilla chip crumbs from the desk top. About 2:35 AM the first night we received an unrequested wake up call. Ouch. Night two, about 2:35 AM a wake up call. John the night clerk was about to instruct me on how to fix the issue myself when he had better thoughts and offered to do it him self. Nigh three, 2:35 AM, another unrequested wake-up call. This time at least John tried to apologize, not well, but at least lip service. He wanted to teach me how to do it myself, but at 2:35 in the morning, I find I'm not very teachable. I don't envy the next guest in #235! Overall, this hotel is unfriendly, a bit unclean, overall underwhelming. It is hardly worthy of a Lion as a symbol, and certainly straining just to reach a 2-star rating.
“Very Good Location. Really enjoyed it.”
The Reception was very professional and trained there.
“Red Lion Vancouver”
I have stayed at this particular hotel many times over the years, mostly on business. During my entire stay, the internet service was terrible and the cable television (I believe they are on satellite) was mostly offline or unavailable (all channels). Extremely frustrating as I was in town on business and being away from my office I need to stay in contact via e-mail, etc. Also not being able to relax and watch some simple television or news was frustrating as well. I will most likely not stay at this hotel again in the future, or at least until they have improved this situation significantly.
“Loved it!”
We'll definitely go back to this hotel. We loved the room, the view, the service, the restaurant, the lounge and the location. We would recommend it to anyone. Oh, and the brunch on Sunday was to die for!
