"Hotel is in a good location: close to sea and calm"
Check-in went fine.
In general we loved staying at the hotel, nice staffs (reception and breakfast) and facilities (Gym, pool).
However, the only problems I and my new wedded wife had at staying at this hotel was
1) being welcomed into our twin room by spiders (3), one at the door and 2 at the ceiling
2) sea-view from the room was not very impressive.
Due to arriving late at night, we were asked to sleep and we could request to be changed next morning.
We changed to a new room with good sea-view but not a twin room as booked.
For the hotel to be fair, I think they should refund the difference of Twin-room and double room to me.
The studio apartment was spotlessly clean and much bigger than we were expecting. It was also very well equipped, and even had a proper oven and a dishwasher (although we didn't use either!).The free breakfast was amazing - lots of lovely fruit and a great selection of breads and rolls, plus the usual cold meat/cheese and cooked breakfast. It's a bit of a walk from the town and the beach, but lovely and quiet because of this.

Hotel was OK. Good facilities and pool area (the smaller pool anyway - didn't go to the larger hotel pool as it was quite a walk from our room!). Staff were great although we did have a slight issue with the cleaning staff. After having already showered, I was annoyed to discover that the bath towels had been replaced with hand towels! We made reception aware of it the next morning and they were very apologetic although another couple also came up behind us and said 'we came here to complain about the same thing'. Odd.
Room itself was OK. We had a studio with a third bed which we didn't use. Rooms were big with a handy kitchen area if you did want to use it.
Breakfast was OK (notice a theme?!) also. Nothing special but edible. Your usual plates of cold meats and cheeses, fruits and then the trays of hot scrambled egg, baked beans and hash browns. They also have a station for eggs so you can ask for them fried or an omelette. The omelettes were very nice but if you get down to breakfast at a busy time then expect to wait for around 15-20 mins for an omelette (I gave up in the end!).
Good location - 5 mins to beach but the walk to the town is a bit more strenuous! Takes about 10 minutes to get to the top of the 'strip' (with quite a few stairs!) and then around 5-10 mins to walk to the end of it. Also about a 10 min taxi ride to Alvor which is well worth doing (lovely narrow streets and delicious restaurants)
We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights, the hotel is very nice. There are lots of things to do like playing golf, swimming, sun bathing, tennis, football, table tennis etc. There are three restaurants but all are not open every day, good quality and enormous quantity of food is served. Staff very helpful.
Very nice hotel with very friendly staff right in the middle of everything u need. Can get a bit of noise late at nights due to vacinity but all in all a worth while holiday choice of hotel and location..
have just returned from an amazing 8 night stay at the lunar alvor bay with my husband. the hotel is literally only a five min walk to a beautiful long sandy beach and if you walk 10 to 15 mins walk to the left you then come to a couple of secluded coves with caves which was breath taking. the hotel is also situated very near to a small fishing port and an abundance of restaurants, bars and shops which was only 10 mins walk away as were the supermarkets. theres a boardwalk near the port which takes you on a very scenic walk along the estuary to the other end of the beach which was virtually deserted. transfer from airport took us about 75 mins but well worth it. the staff are very friendly and helpful. we are already looking at returning back to lunar alvor bay this october could not fault it at all, perfect holiday in a perfect setting.
A port town, Portimao is known for its fish restaurants and shopping. The former cluster around the dock though its once-famous old-style eateries have been replaced by modern outlets. Boat trips also depart from the quayside. Portimao is the regional shopping centre, noted for leather, shoes and clothes, and its weekly market attracts large crowds. Close by, Praia da Rocha is a busy resort which boasts one of the Algarve’s most spectacular beaches.
