“Happy with local hotel representatives”

My wife and I along with our yougest son were travelling to Portage la Prairie to attend a wedding and wanted a reasonably priced hotel for a one night stay. Other than the initial frustration in signing in, the Days Inn in Portage la Prairie met our needs. Being familiar with the area, i knew that the hotel had a second floor with no elevator. As our yougest son is in a power wheelchair, we required a nonsmoking room on the main floor which i listed in the request section . When we arrived we were shocked to learn that the room booked was on the second floor and that no elevator was available. The hotel receptionist noted that the information regarding a wheelchair was not noted on her screen and that she was prevented from making any changes to the reservation. She did locate an alternate room on the main floor (although it was a smoking room )which turned out to meet our needs. I do not blame the local staff for the mistake as the they have no control over the bookings. I am unsure whether the issue was at Days Inn central reservation area or with Expedia.ca. The Expedia representative, who opted to call the hotel , could not provide any real information as to who was responsible. The alternate room met our needs and the staff were very accomodating and friendly.

This hotel is on the Portage la Prairie bypass, so very convenient from the highway and in a rural setting. The road junction is not aligned with the hotel entrance eastbounders must be aware to turn right and then left onto the service road before the hotel entrance. The building is well used but in good repair and clean. Walls are quite thin and hallway doors are subject to banging which can interupt sleep unless you rise early in the morning. Our four night stay was well serviced, our room with two double beds was spacious with fridge and small desk. Best surprise was wireless internet with no charge. Beds were softer than I am accustomed to but good enough support for normal sized person. The cafe has lots of choice for breakfast, well prepared and not expensive,and friendly staff. If you stay, everything in town is less than 10 minutes away.
