We did not realize, during a pandemic that Cape Breton would have all accommodations fully booked, we were very pleased to find a room at the Skye Lodge. The rooms are outdated, but the price compensated for that. The room was clean, and the service was amazing considering they were most likely not prepared for so many guests.

Location was perfect, beautiful views. When you first walk in it is a little dated and carpet has bare spots. When we got to the room at first glance it was decent. But had a musty smell, the window was broken open with high wind outside. Bed was tough. So my girlfriend and I decided to keep driving home to halifax area.

Isn't pet friendly, pay extra for pets.
Upon arrival, the owners questioned how many people were staying when we asked for a cott. One owner said 15 and the other said 20 for the cott, so we assuured them that its fine & we were willing to pay 20 for the cott. The website said pet friendly, dogs and cats (it said specifically cats and dogs, no other). The owners said it wasnt pet friendly then said yes, then later said we had to pay extra upon check out for the dog (she stayed in the kennel in the room). The following night someone else had a dog next door, so it must have been pet friendly? I dont know. It was an uneasy feeling anyway. Not very welcoming, my spouse showed the owner the website that quoted pet friendly and he still wanted extra money for the dogs stay and wouldn't tell him how much it would cost. The towels and lay out had improved since my last visit a decade ago. Floors were nice and clean. The sheets were nice and fresh, the fuzzy blankets suck. Once the blankets and service from the owners improve, it could become a 3.5 star rating. Have set prices and avoid the loop holes on arrival, the website had false advertisement. The cott is not complimentary and no set price. It was very unprofessional of the owners to behave that way.

The heating wasn't turned on when we got the room, it was at 5 degrees, so turned it up and it took more than 3 hours to heat up the room, otherwise, the stay was pretty good

Closed down and no where to go!
There was no stay this hotel was closed down and i had to scramble to find a new place to stay after a 12 hour drive to get there.

Where do I start... upon opening the door to our outdated room we were accosted by the smell of chlorine so strong I had to leave the door open for a spell... the front desk wanted to charge us $40 for a roll away cot AND we had to go get it.! The beds I’m sure we’re certainly past their prime, almost as comfortable as sleeping on the floor. The toilet ran all night. Loudly. And under the sink... oh dear. It was stuffy, smelly, and outdated. And the wifi sucked. I’d say it is time for a renovation other than geraniums, or a bulldozer. Worn out. Sad. Nasty

A run down motel in Port Hastings
We stayed here the night before doing Cabot trail. This hotel is just about okay for spending the night, nothing more. 1) We had a confirmed booking from hotels.com with the payment to be made at the hotel, but the owner refused to honor the hotels.com price, and charged us more. We had arrived late at night, with no mood to fight so I ended up paying more than the price on hotels.com confirmation email. 2) The room is run down, and the bathroom had a lot of hair on the floor. Quite disgusting..

The room was adequate, but rather poorly furnished. It did have a table near the window which was very useful. There was a coffee maker and refrigerator in the room. Breakfast was not provided.

The first room they gave us, we could not get the door open. There was a large cobweb on the wall, under the sink was dirty, the air- conditioner was dirty and the beds were old. It needs a total renovation.

Very old and not kept up well. Heater was detaching from the wall, light bulb was burnt out, cable didn't work. Pictures on the site don't show the run down. Would of been more pleasant facing the water but seems everyone had rooms facing the highway. We stayed at a motel 2 hours away for $30 cheaper and they served a continental breakfast. Owners were always around to visit. Cold attmosphere here.

Nice floors, but bathroom was a horrible mess. Repairs were just placing more plastic sheeting on top of original problem. Faucets and shower head hanging off the wall and crooked. Room I had was extremely run down and was not worth the price we paid.

Staff was ok. Not pleasant but ok. Had been renovated, but cheaply. Restaraunt was no longer available, which was too bad. There used to be a really good restaraunt with great food. We were out front and a group of motorcyclists, and they were reving their bikes up all night.
