“Mai Tai - Magnificent!”

Authentic Balinese statues either side of the welcoming entrance confirmed our 6 day stay was going to be great! Mai Tai ticked all the right boxes- 1. 4 rooms plus one large Villa = less people. 2.No children = bliss. 3.Peace and tranquillity. 4. mins to Mosman/Port Douglas. Native wildlife incl lizards, toads,tree frogs, bird life;this resort has been decorated with authentic Balinese/Java furniture,statues,paintings, delicate carvings-delightful.Hosts/owners Anthony & Andre were awesome;offering local knowledge of the area,Day trips to the Gorge, CapeTribulation,the Daintree & croc spotting to wineries & eateries. The 5 star detail was noted & greatly from the time we arrived to the time we waved goodbye. Our 'Poppy Room' was attended to every morning whilst sitting at the table which accommodated guests for a continental breakfast.This was to say the least, scrumptious. Delightfully presented settings/cutlery adorned with freshly plunged coffee/tea,tropical fruit platter, warm croissants, breads to toast and cereals, fresh juices.Overlooking the rainforest, gave us an overwhelming feeling of relaxation and contentment. The weather was truly spectacular .and although the rain did fall on two days, it didn't matter. The pool was clean, warm and inviting, the lounge chairs comfortable. We travelled to the locals in Mosman, Port Douglas, Cairns, fishing,day trip to the Daintree,a local winery. Take a look at the Mai Tai Resort website. You will not be disappointed.

When to go
We travelled in October - it was 30 degrees + every day, it did rain, but the humidity made it easy to continue to enjoy the holiday and sightseeing.
Getting there
A short air plane trip to Cairns, hired a car from the airport, and travelled to our accommodation. Easy!
Getting around
The hire car was definitely a plus. We used it everyday, even just to travel 5 minutes to Mossman for a bite to eat in the evening.
What to pack
As usual, girls pack way too much, and as the weather was terrific,our stay was 6 days so two t shirts, 2 shorts, bathers and a hat is all that was required for the both of us.
Must see
The Daintree Discovery Tour was the best, definitely the best day trip tour we have been on. 'Uncle Nev', our tour driver was awesome, entertaining, definitely not boring ,and our bus which carried only 8 passengers was personal and not overcrowded. The Mossman Gorge, Daintree river cruise, Cape Tribulation, 4 wheel drive tour, Cassowary Falls - a great days entertainment - Lovely and fulfilling morning tea and packed lunch for all - highly recommended.
Dining
Dining in Mosman was pleasantly surprising - the local cafe 'Sunrise Snack Bar' served the best fresh ,moist fish,seafood and crunchy chips ever tasted - yum. The two local pubs, didn't serve meals but if you dare to sit a while,had lots of chatter, pool tables, unusual characters and cold beer. D's served delicious steak cooked to perfection, and the local pizza place 'La Boca' - served the BEST pizza we have ever tasted, seriously! The pizza base was not only cooked to perfection, but it was firm, a little crunch,and stayed that way right to the very last bite. Yum! The Courthouse Hotel in Port Douglas is great for entertainment - two guys - one on saxophone, one singer/keyboard player - all the songs we know, but don't hear much any more. Great to sing along to whilst drinking a coldie.
Outdoors or beach
The beach is always a delight to walk along, although we were a little hesitant about entering it - the current shark attacks and the croc sightings kept my toes firmly in the sand, but a trip to Cape Tribulation was a beautiful experience, and a walk along the edge of the water was soothing.We hired a pontoon fishing boat from the Port Douglas Marina for a couple of hours, with rods, reels, bait and a hope to catch a fish, we putted down the canals and anchored to throw our lines in. Although we came back with nothing, the fish were jumping, but not biting our lines. Great fun and soooo relaxing.
