“Affordable Hotel”

The lobby was clean and the receptionist pleasant. But, the housekeeping left something to be desired. One of the towels in the room had a clump of hair on it.

“HJ Toms River”

Very good, inexpensive motel, located near where I needed to be. Courteous, helpful and friendly staff expected me and had my room waiting. Room was clean and comfortable, with TV, high speed wifi. Onsite pub and restaurant available with simple continental breakfast in the morning. Not a luxury hotel but served its purpose more than adequately. I'd go back next time I'm in the area.

“Older Motel”

This is a older motel but in pretty good condition. Check in was easy and the breakfast was very good.

“Clean and nice”

For its price range, this was a great hotel. The rooms were large and comfortable, and the staff was flexible. We first got a non-smoking room that smelled of cat urine (the hotel allows pets in smoking rooms). We were told that due to a recent hurricane they had to accommodate many more people than usual and things got out of control. They immediately switched us to another room and no problems there. We would definitely stay again, with the caveat that we wanted something close to the NJ shore and this was not that close. We couldn't find anything else that was.

“satisfied overall”

Had a good experience at the Howard Johnson... however, at check-in the female employee was very rude and ignorant. Had I not been in a hurry at check-in I would have asked to speak to a manager.

“Nice”

We did enjoy your continental breakfast. My husband loved the waffles. The bagals and coffee was great.

“Close to the NJ shore”

Close to the NJ shore (Seaside Heights), in Toms River. It was clean, the cont breakfast room was small, but it was good. A bit noisy from guests, late in the evening when the boardwalk and bars closed, but that is to be expected on a summer weekend. We will be back, it was a good value.

Area recommendations

Seaside Heights and boardwalk. A but roudy, but still lots of famail fun to be had.

“Definitely will stay here from now on”

Clean rooms with high ceilings and balcony on second floor. Great indoor pool with fantastic lounge area outside. The front desk people are extremely kind, friendly, and helpful. Minutes away from boards, rides, and beach. Located by many restaurants and shopping centers. Prices for rooms are very reasonable.

“Worst hotel stay ever!!”

Where do I start... The women at the front desk was polite but she gave us the wrong room. After telling her we wanted a single queen instead of a double she said that there would be no extra charge, hello lady I simply do not want a double!!! The hotel room as very out dated and the bed felt like I was sleeping on the floor. Then when I turned the shower water on it was yellow. I will never stay at another Howard Johnson ever again.
