"Great location in Madrid !"
El Coloso Hotel is in a great location to explore Madrid. As soon as I checked in the hotel front desk staff was very friendly. The room I was given was very clean. The only strange thing about this hotel is the elevator set up. You can either access it through the lobby , then get off on the first floor to get another elevator or you could simply get the elevator by exiting the hotel and using the side entrance facing the street. The Palacio Real and Museo Cerralbo are both within walking distance. If you want to visit the Prado, Reina Sofia , and Thyssen, you can take a short taxi ride to the Prado, then from there you can easily walk to the other two museums. I booked guided tours with Julia Travel and their office is a very short walk from the hotel, probably about 5 minutes. Also next to the hotel is a grocery store in case you want to buy snacks to have in your room.

"You get what you pay for"
I'm sure this wasn't a bad place as far as hostels go. However, I had never stayed at a hostel and was grossed out by the shared bathrooms. I think the structure of the walls and floors in both the room and bathrooms were not conducive to cleanliness as there were cracks, peeling paint, etc. Staff were helpful but not overly welcoming. Location was superb, just steps from Mercado de San Miguel. This hostel was pretty quiet with no loud guests. It seemed to attract an older hostel-crowd.

"Served us great"
We were in Madrid for just one night and arrived late, we just needed a place to sleep. Since we arrived after 11:00 PM we had to call to have them prepare the key for us. The self checkin process was very efficient, beside the fact I would expect them to prepare for self checkin automatically if the see we're arriving late. The bed was the most comfortable I tried at any hotel, and I have back problems.

"Very nice stay at Mercure"
Nice staff people and very good location (10 minutes walk form the Royal Palace and even closer to the Egyptian Debod Temple). Clean room. Also very good value for the money. Arrived at 10:30 in the morning and got access to the room - no problem! We had a choice of non smoker / smoker room, and on street side or not.

"Terrific location and great Staff"
This was our first trip to Madrid and we chose the hotel because of location, and we were pleasantly surprised by the great staff. They were always helpful and friendly, giving us tips on local attractions. We were pleased with the price, staff, and location. The hotel was clean and tidy.

"Excellent location for Metro and major sites"
Good sized clean rooms with breakfast offered at 7.70 euro at sister hotel 50 metres up the road. No bar but plenty of these just outside the door as are the various restaurants required for a good city break. Staff were always available and were polite and professional with nothing to much trouble. All in all a very good hotel ideal for visiting a major city on a reasonable budget.

"Good Hotel, Great Location"
This hotel is situated opposite the Plaza Mayor right in the heart of Madrid. It is convenient for buses, including the ubiquitous London double decker tour bus. The rooms are modern and clean. The bathroom was great with an excellent shower. However, the sound proofing isn't great and we were woken by other guests opening and shutting doors. The staff were great and helpful, overall I would recommend this hotel.

"great hotel for anyone"
The hotel is a little expensive, but it is worth the price since it's so close to Madrid's Gran Via. They also take care of your luggage if you have to leave the city, the staff is very nice and works to accommodate you. I have stayed here multiple times and it's my hotel to go. The only issue I rated the comfort of my room "4" was because the water temperature was a little inconsistent while showering (but it's sometimes expected to be like that).

Pocket Guide: Madrid Plaza de Espana - Princesa Hotels

At the western end of the arterial Gran Via, Plaza de España is home to Franco-era architecture like the monstrous red and white Edificio España. The nearby Palacio Real (royal palace) was rebuilt in 1764 and is still used for state functions. It contains some wonderfully ornate rooms and is free on Wednesdays to EU citizens (take your passport). Admire the statues in the lovely Sabatini Gardens afterwards.
