“Surprisingly good stopover”
We flew into Pisa as a convenient airport to go to Tuscany and le cinqueterre Having read reviews of the Royal Victoria Hotel we thought that one night in Pisa would be Ok We were very pleasantly surprised by the Hotel and the town . A taste of the old grand tour of Europe luxury in the hotel and a surprising university town. The hotel has seen better days but is still clean and welcoming with a great breakfast and near to all the sights of Pisa
“Awful Hotel which charges extortionate amounts for poor rooms.”
I was thoroughly dissapointed by this hotel. I thought that the reviews had indicated that this was a nice hotel. This is incorrect. Upon entering the hotel, there was an American gentlemen trying to return his key after looking at his room.... Ominous. This was swiftly followed by going up the ridiculous lift, which is falling to pieces and suitable only for small children. Every guest we encountered was dour in expression, upon speaking to a few, they reported that they had nearly cried when they had seen their room. All were looking forward to leaving. Our room was like a prison cell (and I've worked in Prisons), checking out felt like getting parole. Avoid like the plague.
“just like a museum!”
This hotel is very interesting, it´s just like a museum, in a great location and easy to find, just a short taxi ride from the airport, or a 10 minute walk from the train station.
“Quite an experience”
Great internal spaces, lovely roof terrace, old fashioned and quirky, lovely staff - quite an experience.
“Katherine Allaed-Marette”
Very helpful and friendly staff. The hotel itself was quintessential old Italy, such history under one roof!
“Old World charm and character in a convenient location”
Although the Royal Victoria Hotel in Pisa has undoubtedly witnessed better days in its long history - as evidenced by the numerous testimonials, photos etc displayed in the public areas, it remains its charm and is a great base for exploring Pisa and the surrounding area. Only 10 minutes from the main railways station via a pedestrianised street, it is the only hotel in the city overlooking the river. 10 minutes in the other direction is the Cathedral and Tower, this time via pedestrianised streets bordered with chic designer shops. Nearby is a variety of restaurants to cater for all tastes and pockets and this is partly a reflection of the proximity of the University. The hotel itself is filled with antique furniture and paintings which reflects its illustrious past. The restaurant is now only used for breakfast, but room service and a bar for the rooftop lounge area is available all day. Rooms have high ceilings and are clean and roomy with good bathroom facilities. Linens are changed daily and windows are fitted with screens to allow them to be opened without inviting in unwanted 6-legged visitors (nonetheless anti-mosquito lotion should feature in your suitcase as occasionally a determined invader does get through !). Staff are very friendly and helpful and the substantial breakfast buffet features a wide range of cold meats, cereals, fruits, pastries etc. A ground floor lounge area is also available and bicycles can be hired. There is a lift to all floors.
“Fascinating faded grandeur”
This hotel may not be to everyones taste but we found it a delight. A great location on the river and close to many good value bars and restaurants as well as shopping. The hotel really is amazing. It'l like stepping back in time - a working museum or living antique shop. The public areas are vast. There are so many public rooms and areas to explore. The corridors are huge and full of amazing history showing Pisa and the hotel in days gone by. We had a standard room and it was pretty basic but I would certainly return as the hotel was so different to the norm. The staff were also very helpful and attentive.
“Great location and lovely atmosphere”
Royal Victoria is a wonderfully located in Pisa within walking distance of the Compo di Miricoli. The hotel has a real sense of the past and is attentive to the period decor. The service was very professional and we were upgraded to an en-suite room. However, as it is located by the Arno and near a youthful, bustling area, it was quite noisy at night, even though with our windows and shutter closed. The air conditioning was a quite noisy and weak. On the whole, it is a great hotel considering the price, and I would strongly recommend this hotel.
“Pisa away from the tower”
The Royal Victoria has an air of somewhat faded grandeur but is ideally positioned for those who prefer to be away from the tourist tack and bustle of the tower area, but still close to old town cuisine/action. The hotel appeals for its heritage, fine service and lovely roomy traditional rooms. My room overlooked the Arno, which made it a bit noisy on Saturday evening but perfect in proximity to a few museums/galleries and lovely restaurants. I appreciated the assistance of staff and the opportunity to hire a hotel bike to head a few klms outside.
“Charming stay in Pisa”
Located right next to the river in a great location. Hotel has historical charm and if you appreciate these type of characteristics you would enjoy the Royal Victoria. The staff was very helpful and had several great suggestions. We were able to rent bikes from the hotel and bike all around the town which was one of the highlights of our trip. I would definitely stay here again.

Area:
Pisa, Italy: Many churches, bridges and fading palazzi adorn this ancient maritime city, but most visitors have eyes for just one building. Pisas famous Torre Pendente (Leaning Tower) seems to defy the laws of physics, which Galileo tested with weights dropped from its summit. Even without its recently stabilized tilt, this marble bell-tower would be an architectural marvel. Two ornate pulpits are highlights of the Duomo and Baptistery nearby.
