“Expensive, Overpriced Food, but Great Villa”
My wife and I decided to spend our 2nd week of our Thailand Honeymoon at Le Meridien Khao Lak. We understand that the hotel and surrounding area were hit very hard by a Tsunami a few years back, and that the area was still under major construction. Our problem wasn't with all of that it was essentially the food offered at the resort. Before travelling, I had read quite a bit about the restaurants at Le Meridien, and how menus were developed by a 3 Michelin Star chef. Unfortunately without the chef being at the resort, the food quality suffers terribly. As the resort mainly caters to Europeans, the menu was very overpriced, especially for the quality of foods delivered. Thailand has so many amazing foods to offer, and if you visit the resort you will not have a chance to enjoy any of them. We decided to try 3 buffet dinners at the resort, averaging about $45 Canadian a person, and found ourselves filling up on the salad bar, as the food was tastelss and overcooked. Our original pool facing room was disappointing, as it seems like they didnt' take the time to do proper repairs after the Tsunami. After 3 days in a room, we moved to a beachfront pool villa, which was definitely a good choice and worth the extra money. The butler service was tremendous, and privacy was great. This was the only highlight of our stay at Le Meridien. There are so many great places to stay in Thailand, unfortunately this was not the best place we could have stayed, especially for the price.
“Couples Beware”
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing hotel this is not your place. The hotel is set up for children and they have taken over. We stayed in the spa section, which is suppose to be for adults, but were surrounded by families with not well behaved children and the walls were paper thin. You could hear voices and crying babies as if they were in your hotel room. We had to switch rooms twice because we were originally placed across from the kid's day care center and our next room was suppose to be in the adult section, but the family next to us was so loud we couldn't sleep. Unfortunately the staff was not very accommodating. After staying there for 7 days there is not a hotel room or villa that you could find peace and quiet. The grounds are beautiful, but it's not a relaxing place if you are couple trying to get away. We are frequent travelers and haven't experienced a more noisy, family oriented hotel than Le Meridien. Do yourself a favor and find another hotel in Khao Lak. P.S. When you leave the hotel you will quickly find that everything is at least 60% less.
“Khao Laks best hotel”
Great value and in new condition on semi private beach with large swimming pools, free car parking and only 1.30 hours easy drive from Phuket airport, good opportunity to spend half your holliday here in a tranquil location and half in Phuket with its busling shopping and nightlife
“Very beautiful location”
Very nice resort with a beautiful beach. Especially the villas are great. Location is in the middle of the Nature a trip to the next bigger town takes 15 minutes by taxi. We are definitively looking forward to go there again.
“Can't wait to go back”
Amazing 2 weeks spent here relaxing and exploring the local area. We had 2 young children (6 & 4) with us and they loved it. Extremely friendly people & the service was great. Stayed in a beach front villa that was beautiful. We did not want to leave & we all look forward to the next time we can return!
“Very Quiet location”
This is a nice hotel with good facilities, situated in a very quiet area. If you would like a quiet family holiday with a nice beach and good facilities on site this is for you. The Spa and pool facilities are excellent as are the choice of restaurants on site. Unfortunately we went in Monsoon season. Being so quiet this place had its limitations when it rained heavily and constantly for four days. As the hotel is a self contained holiday village, there is very little close by. I would recommend car hire for exploring. We hired a car for a couple of days and drove up into Phuket where there was more to do. We stayed in a Delux room, which was reasonably spaceous and nicely furnished, although the bathroom was a little jaded and could probably do with a face lift. The furnishing of the hotel room compared more favourably to four star hotels we have stayed in before rather than five star. The staff were all very polite. friendly and welcoming. The only complaint we had was the way a problem with the room lock was handled. We were locked out of our room four times in eight days due to a fauly locking mechanism. Although we were compensated with a nice meal for the inconvenience, we did feel that the problem should have been fully resolved after the second attempt at 'fixing the lock'. Eventually a new lock was put on the door, after much persuasion on our part.
“Wonderful week!”
Just returned from the Le Meredien and would love to go back! Very comfortable, relaxing environment, exceptional staff, impressive food and wonderful attention to details and visitor's comfort. The only issues we had were with our AC unit and the staff were always there immediately to fix the problem, offering to move us if it couldn't be fixed. Highly recommend - great activities planned and even with a wedding going on for 4 days, we were never upset by the large group involved with that. Great job Le Meredien!
“Probably won't go back”
The hotel is fantastic but really far away from the closest town, which normally wouldn't bother me except the hotel shuttle (which is normally free which is why its called a shuttle) charges people to use it each way and each person, so for a family of three it cost more than a taxi in Sydney Australia. Poinless staying there cause there is five star resorts in town with the same beach access...
“This place is heaven on earth....”
We have just had the most amazing two weeks holiday - it was so hard to leave... There is nothing to fault about this resort! From the amazing buffet breakfast to the free activities everything is amazing. The restaurants on the beach are delicious and friendly - definitely the places to eat. Our teenage daughters also loved it and cant wait to return next December.
“Excellent secluded beach and resort”
The resort was exactly what my wife and I were looking for. The food was excellent as was the service. The seafood grill event was somewhat disappointing in that all the food tasted of charcoal. The seafood buffet we enjoyed at the Phuket Yacht Club was much better, but all the other meals we enjoyed at Le Meridien were great. We were looking for seclusion, and that is exactly what we got. We did go into town on 2 occassions to enjoy local food. The Issan Thai restaurant in by the German beer garden (I forget the name)was excellent. I have seen complaints that the food and drinks were too pricey at Le Meridien, but I thought they were reasonable. The discounted happy hour at the pool bar made the drinks even more reasonable...the Mojitos were good, but the Pina Coladas were not. The baby elephant was great - a fun addition to the hotel. I highly recommend this resort if you are looking for a great beach with lots of activities. Don't plan on snorkeling at the beach as the water is too murky. Day trips to the Similan Islands can take care of that.
