“Never to return!!”

When booking the hotel, we had contacted Expedia to ensure that the reception area would be open at our 2am arrival time. It was confirmed that someone would be there. There was one member of staff on reception, who seemed a bit 'put out' at the hour of our arrival. There was no offer of help with our luggage and the tiny lift made it quite difficult to manoeuvre into, with one suitcase, nevermind two and hand luggage. (A member of staff who looked as if he would be assisting with luggage had disappeared!) We had booked a room overlooking the Swan River and were initially shown a room on one of the lower floors. Although it was dark, I could see some water -which turned out to be the swimming pool!! Not only that, but a dirty plaster, blood included and off someone's finger/toe, lay on the floor! The hotel charges a premium because of its view so considering the price paid, we returned to reception, complete with dirty plaster, and requested a room with at least a view of the river. The man on reception was even more 'put out' and eventually stated that a room on a higher floor was available so we made our way there to find that the toilet was faulty! The cistern was continally filling! A further visit to reception! I reported the fault and the same receptionist we had seen before advised us that as and when a room on a higher floor became available, we would be moved again. That never happened. The toilet, however, was fixed during our firstt day. Never saw a cleaner!

Area recommendations
Tthis was our first visit to Perth and we loved the place. We had planned to do the usual touristy sights but decided instead to explore Perth itself. The walk along the river is most pleasant. There are plenty of shops along the main street and the usual shopping mall. The local people are some of the friendliest we have ever met on our travels abroad. They are genuinely interested in what you have to say - particularly when they heard our English accents as so many of those we met were originally from the UK!
Getting around
It is easy to walk around the centre of Perth, although the roads leading up from the river area to the shopping area are somewhat steep. There are the free CAT buses which are different colours, depending on where you wish to go. The ferries are also frequent and easy to use.
Must see
King's Park is huge and would take at least one full day to visit. One of the free CAT bus takes you very close to the park too.
Dining
We had an excellent meal in the King's Hotel. It wasn't cheap but due to our poor exchange rate and the cost of living in Australia, it's difficult to eat cheaply in Oz. The meal in the King's Hotel, however, was worth every dollar and I would definitely recommend it. We had a meal in 'Dome', which can be reached by ferry and is in South Perth. Nothing fancy - we had fish and chips - with very generous portions and reasonably priced. One place worth a visit is Miss Maud's although I wouldn't recommend the carvery. Everything is laden in salt - even the veg. I would recommend it for the atmosphere although the 'live' entertainment could have been better. The ageing accordianist was there, but looked more dead than alive! He was presumably there for payment. No stage presence at all and just did what he had to do. (Yawn, yawn!).
Family-friendly activities
A trip to Perth Zoo is worth a visit.

“Very tired decor”

The decor was extremely dated. Not at all what I expected.

“Would certainly use this hotel again.”

Would recommend this hotel to others. Although slightly out of the centre, it was only a short and walk along the river to Barrack Square wher ir was easy to pick up ferries and free buses. Our room on the front had a good sized balcony which made for a relaxing view of the river and parkland.

We enjoyed our stay, it was very clean, no noisy guests. The staff were willing and happy to please and the hotel had an intimate feel about it.

“Beautiful location, lovely staff, great hotel.”

After a long trip from Melb and not feeling well my 9 yo and I arrived bags in tow to the hotel around 11am. We were looked after extremely well, bags were taken to be stored and we were told they would put a priority cleaning on our room. As it was a beautiful day we wandered along the swan river bank and up to the bell tower. Stunning gardens and parks close by. Around noon we received a call to say our room was ready so we headed back. Our bags were taken to the room and we were able to check in early. Staff were very friendly and helpful, I was most impressed with the service. Found a great 24hour small supermarket around the corner, suprisingly reasonable prices.

“over priced and out dated”

Sorry, but won't be returning. The price we paid for the quality of the hotel was a total disappointment. The rooms are out dated . We found mould in our bathroom and the shower over the bath is a danger for anyone trying to get in and out. The whole room was like being back in the eighties. They do not even have a good range of TV channels and the location looking over the Swan river does not justify the price paid.

“good all round hotel”

we had a room with a balcony overlooking the swan river and South Perth. For a City hotel it was in an excellent location to be based. it was within easy walking distance (or free bus ride) to northbridge where most of the reasonably priced restaurants are located. if you have a car, the hotel is quite expensive, but you can street park between 6pm and 0800 for free, if you need to park all day, fraser point is only five minutes walk where parking is much cheaper. the hotel staff were courteous and very helpful.Maybe a bit dated, but cleanliness overall was impressive.

Area recommendations
The hotel is near the business district so not many good restaurant deals. however a short walk over to Northbridge is well worth it,because of numerous pubs and food places. the hotel is within walking distance of Kings park which is worth a visit and of course there are numerous shopping areas nearby.

“Pleasantly surprised.”

Pleasanlty surprised with the Crowne Plaza. The staff were all very friendly and service was excellent. Only negative I can comment on - which may have been a one-off, was no-one on the end of the phone for room service - answering machine - left a message and no call-back. Finally rang the restaurant itself and ordered room service meal and then waited another 40 minutes. Of course by the time the meal arrived I was no longer hungry after a wait of over an hour and a half. Apart from that one glitch I can only say it was very comfortable, quiet, in a good position and very cheerful, obliging staff. Will stay again and recommend.

“Good option for central perth”

Overlooking the Swan river, within walking distance of the CBD and riverside cruises, and with small roof-top pool.
