From the moment we arrived until the time we left the staff gave 100% effort to making our stay as comfortable and friendly as possible. They were consummate professionals who gave excellent service without being obtrusive. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, with all the facilities we required.
The food was wonderful, well presented and cooked to perfection. The breakfast buffet was a good mix of healthy options as well as pastries and cereal.
The lounges were comfortable with welcoming open fires...
We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!

Stayed for 2 nights at the hotel. We were in a part of the hotel which has been refurbished. I dont know if all the rooms have been refurbished. We had a great view of the lake from the room. The room was very clean and comfortable.
The staff were firndly and attentive. Breakfast was served to the table and was very good. Had a meal in the Orangerie one evening which was excellent
The hotel is beautifully situated beside the lake and makes for a very tranquil stay

We stayed overnight to break a long car journey. The hotel is a very short drive off the M6 and it was lovely to get away from the traffic and into a tranquil rural setting with pleasant surroundings inside and out. We were made very welcome and were well looked after. Thoroughly enjoyed a delicious evening meal and the cooked breakfast.
