“Tina hh”

You need to be an insomniac to stay here. On the 16th floor and from 10pm until 4am Karaoke is blaring from the street below. The hotel was built in the 70's & hasn't been changed since. Bathroom could do with some bleach! But for the price that would all be OK, but the noise at night means you just can not sleep.

“Sunway Hotel Penang not to bad from a KIWI”

Not to bad for the price one paid for the hotel, rooms clean and tidy, room service from the girls very good, If one needs a travel plug then ask them not the front office, as we asked them(front desk) and they were unsure about where to get one. Swimming pool a bit small but did the trick for my grandson, A small 5 person spa pool right beside the main one. Local food stalls just outside the door along with 3 x local shops which had most things between them. Centrally location to allow one to move around freely , within easy walking distance to two shopping malls, just open was the one at the rear of the hotel, which had a supermaket on the 4th floor. Breakfast was ok, mainly cater to the local or asain people but 2 x kiwis were full each morning after the breakfast, All staff griendly and warm towards people. They are in the process of doing up the hotel during my stay but this had very little impact on us. The travel section within the hotel only had a small amount of information on what to do around the are, so before one go's there take it with you including a local map.

“Good value for the price we paid”

The location is very convenient. Penang Time Square is across from this hotel. Bus stop is just a few minutes walk. Hawker food is everywhere. The karaoke at Penang Time Square is loud but it did not bother us. We were put on the top floor, may be this helps. The hotel is old but clean and with the price we paid, I think this is good value. I am sure after the renovation, it will be pretty. The only surprise we got is the phone charge. We were told a very reasonable rate but when we checked out, the rates were outrageous (RM 9.60 for a less than 3 min talk and we were told ~RM 2.00) We did not have a choice except to pay since the call was made. I think next time when we visit Penang, we may or may not stay here.

“Sunway Hotel Penang”

We originally planned to stay at this Hotel for 3 nights, however we found that the facilities at the Hotel, the helpfulness of all the staff and the convenient location in Georgetown that we stayed for 2 extra nights. Very convenient for the bus station too

“Nice hotel”

Sunway hotel is as good as I expected. Everything is nice except the bathtub stucks sometimes. But they came to slove the problem soon.

“Never again”

Never again will I use this hotel. First of all, I had great difficulty sleeping because of the very loud singing outside, which sounded like an open-air karaoke session that lasted until I think 2:00 PM. I told the assistant manager, an Indian woman, about this on my second day at the hotel, but she said it wasn't their problem since the singing was outside the hotel premises. Okay, fine, but she didn't even bother to offer to see if she could transfer me to another room. Second, there was usually only one person at the reception/cashier, so I always had to wait a while before I could be entertained. Third, there was no plug adapter. I stopped bringing my universal adapter years ago, after I noticed that all the hotels I've been staying at provided adapters. Fourth, there was no HBO, but only about a dozen local channels. The only thing I appreciated about his hotel was the kind man at the concierge (whose name I could give to anyone interested). He was a very friendly Malay, who showed me how to get to different places, and gave me useful tips for travelling.

Got a good deal on the hotel rates when we booked, always try to look for hotels that offer happy hour plus b/fast. We had early check out and they still gave us picnic b/fast even though it was just buns, the thought was very nice.

“Felt like a bit of luxury”

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and found I could walk to the old town very easily. The street food outside made the evenings lively and there was no pressure to eat at the hotel. Some renovations were going on and apparently that will lead to internet access. At present you can't get onto a computer at the hotel unless you are travelling with your own.

“Good choice”

Good hotel in good location. There are many surrounding local shops. Room facilities are comfortable. I had good sleep there and enjoyed breakfast. Staff are helpful and friendly. If I visit Penang next time, no doubt to stay at Sunway Hotel again.
