“Friendly staff and good service”

Very impressed with service. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. A few suggestions though ....allocated car parking for staying hotel guests rather than looking for one on a weekend when there are other guests who were only attending wedding dinner. Also would recommend wireless in rooms as well. Would definitely go back again.

“ParkRoyal Hotel Penang”

This was the second time we stayed at the ParkRoyal this year. I booked a room facing the sea with a balcony. We were put on the 7th floor and had a great view. I love the location of this hotel, surrounded by great cafes and restaurants, particularly the Living Room cafe. The night market is right outside the hotel, there are plenty of mini marts nearby to buy cheap beer and soft drink. The hotel staff are attentive and friendly and the service is terrific. Our toilet flush chain broke and they fixed it within 30 minutes. The tailor in the lobby makes excellent quality shirts at a good price. I cant comment on the food as we only ate breakfast in the hotel, no complaints there, plenty of fresh food and good variety. We sat outside the food area in a thatched hut each day for our breakfast, looking out at the ocean, wonderful! Took several tours of the island and we were picked up from the lobby on time. The tour guides are quite funny and most informative. The pools at the hotel are excellent and they sit in perfectly manicured tropical gardens. I will be back in Penang next year sometime hopefully and I will stay at the ParkRoyal again, I like the hotel.

Area recommendations
Batu Ferringhi as it is a fun place at night and the local food is abundant with choices and it is tasty and cheap.
Dining
Try eating at the Living Room cafe nearby the hotel. Amy and Ben serve fantastic food in a great atmosphere. The nasi goreng, samosas, spring rolls and tapas are excellent. Try the chicken Kapitan curry, it is so tasty. The chef makes up all the sauces using fresh spices.

“Great hotel”

We stayed here for 5 nights in Nov 2011, hotel is beautifully appointed, right on the beach, great pool and gym, fantstic buffet breakfast. Great for kids. It's also very good value for money - food and drinks are at Western prices but right outside the hotel are numerous cafes and bars selling great food at local prices, ie very cheap. One tip - make sure you book a sea-facing room; we were in a "hill view" room which looks on to the road out the front - beautiful room but no view or balcony. Sea view rooms with a balcony are the ones to go for

“would stay there again good centrally located hotel value for money”

i would certainly recommend this hotel except during there 'merdeka' [august 30th -sept 3rd]as it was very noisy outside due to the fireworks going off at 12.30am then again at approx 2 hour intervals[everynight][ also i would like to recommend to the hotel that the music in the lobby go off a little earlier [say 10.30] as for people in the rooms close to the pool are unable to go to bed till after midnight then are woken early when families start to use the pool. [another solution would be to move the band to the other side of the room so the music doesn't carry as much outside] but i still like this hotel its very pleasant surroundings and its position is good all in all a very comfortable and pleasant hotel[next time will request a differant room if music still in same position]

Area recommendations
beach areas are quite nice and you have the night markets if you enjoy haggling also food markets are very good value a few of the restaurants are nice too plenty of choice plenty of outdoor activities
When to go
anytime but not during festivals such as ramadan and merdeka
Dining
excellent variety and value for your money in these night markets and restaurants near the beach

“Great place to stay!”

This hotel has everything. Great location, beautiful pool and grounds, very friendly and helpful staff, and large and extensive buffet breakfast. It also has a kids club which from experience (years ago) was also great! The only thing (which is purely personal), is that the bed was really hard! Apart from that, I have stayed here a few times and have loved it each time. I highly recommend the Parkroyal Penang Hotel!

Area recommendations
Batu Ferringhi is the best place to stay in Penang. This has the resort like hotels, and although it's quiet during the day, once it turns about 7pm, the night markets roar to life! Georgetown and the large shopping plazas are a taxi ride away, or better still catch the 101 bus. During the day you can visit temples, historical places, batik factories and various shopping districts (eg: Chinatown and Little India). There are numerous travel places who will arrange buses, vans with drivers for excellent rates / hour, or if you are game, you can hire your own car!

“OK, but not wonderful”

I chose this hotel because of the location. The hotel is designed for couples and all the "deals" for meals are 2 for the price of 1 and they would not give any benefit to the solo traveller....The hotel did not seem a happy place as the staff just performed their duties...a smile was a rare event!

Area recommendations
The hotel is located on a beautiful beach...I was reluctant to take long walks along the beach as every few hundred meters there's what looked like an open drain into the sea....as I wasn't sure if it contained effluent, I was reluctant to pass through it. I visited in July and there were warnings along the beach to avoid swimming in the sea because of jelly fish. There's a night market along the main road outside the hotel, so that creates some amusement for the evenings!

“extremely dissatisfied .I will go to that hotel or recommend it to any one.”

1.We were offered a room not as agreed upon with Expedia , not coastal view and not delux . We had to spend the first night in a grim room ! After long discussions and arguments we were offered a better room . The hotel is very old and not up to the stated standard ! The internet is not wireless and slow. The services are bad . Please do not recommend it to others although its location is magnificent.

Area recommendations
Golden Sand Hotel . For its good service and interest to help their guests .
When to go
Better in December ,January and February
Getting around
Nothing in particula since there is not much going on or to see.
