“I Shall Return”

After making seven visits to Malaysia since 1997 - three to KL, three to Kota Kinabalu and this last visit to Penang - I know we can always go back to a relaxing holiday. This was our first stay in the Holiday Inn chain of resorts and will not be our last. Our room in the tower side of the hotel, with two double beds was clean, comfortable and had a fantastic view over the beach. The staff in the hotel and the restaurant were unfailingly polite and very helpful with our questions on which spots to visit and how to get there. Really lovely people in the Holiday Inn resort and in Penang !

Area recommendations

The Batu Ferringhi neighbourhood of course. This had just the right mixture of spots to be secluded and peaceful in and the right amount of shops/stalls/eating places to meet the hustle and bustle of the Penang people.

“Beautiful hotel”

It's a beautiful hotel and we really enjoyed our stay at Holiday inn penang. Ideal location right smack by the beach and the night bazaar just a few steps away.However the service is pretty slow. The staff are not very friendly and they hardly smile besides that the room is big ,clean and well decorated .You won't regret in regards to room but the service staff is disappointing.Anyway you have to try it to know it!hope my review helps..cheers

“Great location and facilaties”

We were on the 21st floor of tower across the road and other tower was on the beach front. Great view, very roomy room even though there were 3 of us, and clean. 40 inch LCD which was used rarely. Room had been refurbished 1yr ago. Gripes(complaints) 1.Free WiFi was difficult to use, the sign on procedure usually took and several attempt which is frustrating if using an i phone or small android phone and the username and password changed every day. 2. Cleaning - When I check under the beds as we were leaving to ensure we left nothing behind I discovered articles belonging to previous occupiers and lots of dust so they were not cleaning under the beds regularly. 3. Breakfast deals were offerred at a discount rate however we chose to eat locally for a tenth of the cost including drinks. Obviously we are not comparing apple for apples but the hotels offering we just too inconsistant with local costs.

Area recommendations

Batu Ferringi is good for food with numerous hawker stalls and some shopping. However there are even more hawker stalls in Georgetown on Guernery drive which is less than half hour by very cheap bus ride. There are really good markets and shopping malls in Georgetown. You can hire a car and driver for $25RM per hour and customise your own tour this is cheaper than the packaged tours.

“Good room size, clean”

In batu ferringhi. Close to road market, restaurants, beach and quality massage place. would come back. transport to town is expensive though (30ringgit one way). Best to negotiate with local taxi (30 ringgit per hour- we used 4 hours/day to tour around town and all the temples) and then (4hours last day including transport to airport). Chauffered definitely better than renting if you dont know the area. Rental is about 131ringgit per day- i recon it is too expensive.

“We loved this place”

This hotel is set on a bay and our seaview room had a lovely outlook. It was quiet and clean and the staff couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant opens onto the beach front and is a lovely place to while away the hours.There is a range of food choices, but the evening Indian food menu was a standout - best Indian food we have eaten anywhere. We would go back tomorrow.

“Great hotel, great value!!”

Highly recommended to any travellers to this region. Very comfortable room and nice beach and mountain view from the Tower block. Staff are well trainned, very helpful and services are excellent. Don't miss the mini- buffet from Thur - Sun nights, different theme different nights, not much more expensive than street foods, exceptional value !!

Area recommendations

George Town - full of history. Get a guided tour to go around the Penang Island, lots to explore. The road side fruit stalls from the farmers are great ways to sample local produces

“Good hotel - average location”

Not been back to Penang for many years, so after visiting family in OZ, decided to stop over... Little had changed sadly and that was Penang's main problem.. Whilst Georgetown had grown, little had been done to improve the area of Batu Ferringhi. Stayed 3 nights and that was enough for me.. best thing, the Long Beach food court, doesn't look the best, but all of the food I tried was great and cheap, certainly compared to hotel prices...
