“Good beach hotel”

This was our second stay at the Flamingo. Good,clean and large rooms with balcony - pay extra for the seaview - it is worth it !! Good breakfast. Bus stop outside hotel so can easily see all Penang island. Lovely pool and beach access.

“Do not stay here- a nice facade but with one star service!!!”

We stayed here over Christmas 2009 and were thoroughly disappointed as it was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in in SE Asia. Firstly the hotel has almost no Western or indeed international guests which may at first seem like a good thing, but just meant that standards were not up to scratch. The room wasn't cleaned on two days; there isn't enough food or even tables at the breakfast buffet so everyone is scrabbling over the food available; the bar staff are clearly unused to serving alcohol as they were entirely unable to make the cocktails on their own menu; the air conditioning is on very low, meaning the rooms get hot; the entire pool/jacuzzi area is full of children meaning it is not suitable for a couples holiday. The beach is utterly filthy, covered in discarded cigarettes and other rubbish. Some staff are helpful but nobody really took onboard our complaints or offered to do anything about them. The drinks/food are priced the same/more expensive as decent hotels like Golden Sands and Park Royal so you really might as well stay somewhere decent like that!
