“Great stop off”

Good location for a city for a stop-off from which you can explore Georgetown. Be sure to couple it with a few nights on the beach further along the coast. The 101 bus runs the entire length.

Area recommendations
Try the hawkers market in Red Garden. We missed it sadly - and have been kicking ourselves ever since!
Getting around
There's a free hop-on & hop-off service that runs round the city. There is a stop just before or just after the hotel, within a 5-10 min walk, so you can easily connect with the ferry terminal.

“A Good Place to Stay”

A very good location: quiet but close to lots of attractions. Our deluxe room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and had a nice view over the water. The hotel has a very good outdoor swimming pool to help escape the hot humid weather. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Some maintenance problems with our room: one of the wardrobe doors wouldn't shut because two of the three hinges were falling off, and the pop-up plug in the sink didn't work properly. Only one major concern, which is that if you want a king-size bed rather than twin beds you have to take a smoking room. Ours had a slight cigarette odour, which we could have done without.

Area recommendations
"Buffer Zone" Well maintained hotels close to interesting older districts.
Getting there
Air Asia has cheap flights from many locations.
Dining
Food courts are great. We particularly liked the Red Garden, which was just a couple of blocks from our hotel.

“Impressed with Georgetown”

Having lived in Malaysia (Penang Island) Hotel was convient for me to get around to places I knew and remembered around Penang Island itself. Transportation with nearby Taxi Rank wasn't a problem as it turned out to be a bonus. 10 Malaysian Ringgit standard Taxi Fare to and around the UNESCO Township of GeorgeTown itself. Plenty of other shopping malls also nearby Like for example Plaza Gurney on Gurney Drive Penang. Penang Road close nearby plus Upper Penang Road Restuarants and Bars just around the Corner from Hotel, Breakfast was good. Mix of Western and Malaysian in Restuarant Ground Floor Lobby. Revolving Resuarant was good with mixture of Asian Buffet from Friday to Sunday Night. Beds were comfortable and rooms clean. There were renovations being carried out but didn't see them nor hear them. Staff Friendly and obliging. And Internet Business office in Lobby. Lobby Bar was a refuge from the tropical heat with comfortable armchairs and tables whilst having a coffee or cold drinks.

Area recommendations
Hotel is situated near the UNESCO City of Penang Georgetown. Shopping and Tourist areas nearby with A Typical Asian Flavour of Old time Asian Shopping and Food nearby. Great if Traveller likes getting into the old Asian City idea of shopping and buying clothing jewellery or food. But also Transportation isn't a problem Taxi Stand nearby plus Bus Transport from Hubs or just get a Trishaw down and around Penang Road to places like Little India. Or get Buses further out around the Island itself.
Getting around
Taxis available Buses Trishaws around most of Old GeorgeTown and cost effective

“If we go back, this is where we'll stay”

Can't fault it really. We upgraded which gave us a large room, where we could sit in the window, with a view towards the Bay and the mainland beyond. Had the internet in our room. Alright it didn't work the first day, but they rectified it promptly. Breakfast was good, but I just felt they could have set it out a little more attractively to make it more welcoming. But overall it was first class.

Area recommendations
We had intended to eat at different places on our 3 nights there to get into the real Georgetown, but ended up eating in the Red Garden Hawker Stall Centre every night, about 2 minutes walk away from the hotel, as it had loads of atmosphere, plenty of choice, live entertainment, and was of course amazingly convenient. Had lunch in Little India at Restoran Kapitan which was great. Isn't food cheap in Malaysia. We ate really well, for next to nothing

“Close to everything”

Good location, but the hotel does need some improvement to its interior. The breakfast is good and caters for everyone who may not like eating spicy foods.

Getting around
Hop on a free shuttle bus and get a good idea of what the city looks like. After that it is highly recommendable to take public transport to explore the rest of Penang. Komtar is the head of the city where there is a bus terminal. Pick a place to go and then get on a suitable bus. The bus route is printed at the terminal as well as in some very known tourist spots. Prepare the correct change before getting on a bus as the bus driver in Penang no longer does any change.

“Good for price”

For a one night stop this was reasonable value. I don't like opening the curtains in a "superior room and staring into the concrete wall of a service area between two building, especially with a hotel name like Bayview. The service at the front desk was good. Room service was good and well priced. The surrounding area was not particularly good.

“Convenient, Comfortable & Cheap”

Great hotel in a convenient location in Georgetown, you can walk to the UNESCO World Heritage buildings and heaps of hawker food stalls. Also close to the Esplanade, taxi's, trikshaws and bus stop. Staff were all really friendly happy to help. Rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast is delicious. One negative is the smell of cigarette smoke in some rooms, took a couple of days for it to be out of ours.

Area recommendations
Wandering around Georgetown is great, so many old heritage buildings, visit the Blue Mansion, Red Garden and don't be afraid to try to hawkers stalls, the food is fantastic and we didn't get sick once. Take the bus (#101) to the Spice Gardens out past Batu Farringhi, great trip and wonderful Thai restaurant in the gardens. Air Itam Bhuddist temple, mind blowingly huge, again a bus (#201) trip inland.
