Expensive way to experience fading glory

Posted 16-Nov-2014
Pros: Magnificent grandeur. Secure parking.
Cons: The bathroom needed redecorating and updating. The reception staff need a course in public (guest) relations.
Location: Not relevant to our stay
We chose this illustrious hotel hoping for some old world charm but also out of practicality as we needed a late check-in and secure parking. The Westminster is an imposing building with a magnificent entrance lobby and tasteful bar, restaurant and lounge and a wonderfully restored original lift system. Unfortunately, the ambience of the main public areas didn't extend to the bedroom and especially to the tired and overworked bathroom which was very disappointing. The hotel itself wasn't overpriced (in consideration of putting a tick against the experience of a night at the Westminster) unlike the extras, especially the breakfast which was expensive and served in a gloomy, voluminous room devoid of character. It didn't inspire. The overall disappointing experience was rounded off by an unnecessarily brusque (verging on downright rude) receptionist at check-out. If hotels like the Westminster are to survive and I hope they do, there is a need to improve the guest experience and at least ensure that staff contribute to that experience rather than destroy it!

Grand hotel - a touch of class

Posted 11-Nov-2014
Pros: Convenient location - imposing character of the building
Cons: Service in the bar area
Location: Good array of shops and local restaurant and bars. The nearby Etaples War Cemetery on the D940 is well worth a visit.
Fabulous hotel oozing with history. The Michelin Starred food was absolutely fantastic - just what we went for.

Ideally situated.

Posted 20-Oct-2014
Pros: Ambience and staff.
Cons: None
Location: Ideal lots to see and do.
A short walk to the centre 1 minute. Helpful staff, breakfast was an extra on our bill, which we only had one breakfast 4 bottles from the minibar and that all came to 85 euros, which was a bit steep

Excellent hotel.

Pros: The ambiance.
Cons: The food at breakfast and in the bistro needs improving.
Location: Fabulous location, beautiful area being close to restaurants, shops and the beach.
Wonderful hotel very close to shops and beach. Breakfast - the hot dishes were only just warm and the young waitress was run off her feet, being on her own for 90 per cent of the time. Dinner in the bistro was also disappointing. The ambiance of the hotel was fantastic.

Comfortable rooms, no a/c, no gym. But the location is great and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Good Location

Posted 29-Aug-2014
Pros: Pretty much everything.......
Cons: More storage in the bathrooms, for cosmetics etc.
Location: Shops/restaurants/ beach within strolling distance.
Firstly the location of the hotel is very good, plenty of parking and free WiFi. Short stroll to all the shops and some very good restaurants, catering for all tastes. The large beach and it's many amenities is reached just beyond the shops. The hotel is an interesting blend of 1920's history from its hey day to very modern refurbishment of the rooms. Bathroom could do with more storage space for cosmetics etc . But otherwise rooms are superb. Food is excellent especially good choice at Breakfast.

Hotel was ideally located, tranquil in the relative chaos of Le Touquet. Large room, beautiful bathroom, comfortable bed. Wonderful restored old lifts and traditional features. Extremely good value when booked last minute. Highly recommend.

Super Hotel

Had a single rate room, it had a double bed but would have been too small for two but I expect thats what they offer for discounted rooms. Clean & comfortable but safe rather small. Bar very nice.
