Benoit is great. The hotel is OK to good.

Posted 19-Aug-2014
Pros: Convenient, clean and welcoming at a fair price. And Benoit.
Cons: Get the decoration done and put in a shower curtain.
Location: The location is excellent. 5 mins drive from the ferry. 1 minute walk from the bars and restaurants. 10 mins walk from the beach.
Benoit was a very pleasant and helpful host. The hotel itself is being renovated apparently. Our room was big but basic but clean and warm. The bathroom, and this was our only 'niggle', was a bathroom. It had a shower attached to the bath but no shower curtain or cubicle; if you showered you either had to sit or squat to do so; or stand up and the water went everywhere! That said it's 50 yards from the café's and bars and restaurant's of the main drag. It does breakfast if you want breakfast. It has secure parking which I'd recommend; as when we were booking in our car was 'inspected' by four gentlemen who'd noticed our 'foreign' number plate! The price was good for what we had: convenient, clean and welcoming.

Stayed only one night but will be back. Hotel undergoing restoration but rooms OK and very close to restaurants , bars etc. Secure parking for Motorcycles was a bonus and the owner was very helpfully and made us very welcome. this will be a gem when it is all finished as it is apparent that the restoration is being done to a high standard. Nice breakfast too!

Work in progress

It's hard to describe the experience at this hotel. The host could not be more helpful and the breakfast was fresh and perfectly nice but the state of the building is quite unbelievable, with renovation work everywhere. The bedding was fresh and clean but the bed was tired, the bathroom seemed to be half renovated with quality fittings and good hot water but a combination of clean new tiles and mixed with areas showing evidence of old mould in the grouting. The balcony looks out over a very nice park but was pretty tatty. Very noisy when people are about as there are no carpets in the hallways or on the stairs - so a lot of banging and creaking. On the other hand, cheap private parking and not expensive to stay either. If you're up for a hostel type experience, then it may be for you. Bit too basic for me, however.

Very personal service from the owner, he is still slowly renovating the hotel. Cheap and cheerful - will be staying again.

Good location and very helpful polite staff/owner

The hotel was being refurbished in part but the location was fantastic, there was secure parking to the rear, the staff were incredible helpful and the hotel was charming although a bit shabby around the edges which we liked.

Motorcycle stop over to the UK

Pros: Location, price, parking is a huge plus!
Cons: Once renovated it will be something really special.
Location: Great location and lots to see and do.
This hotel has a huge benefit for motorcyclists - secured off-street parking! The hotel has a uniquely fitted claw foot bathtub. The location is in close proximity to all that Calais has to offer. It is just a few steps to food, drink and fun. The hotel is in a state of renovation... this did not bother us as it has a lot of old character. If you are looking for polished, you might want to go elsewhere. We will be back for another stay.

Good value for money hotel

Basic but comfortable hotel in convenient location. Warm welcome from the owner Benoit who is very helpful and provides advice on local restaurants etc. Secure parking for small additional charge and free WiFi. Breakfast worth the additional $7.00 with fresh bread, croissants, cereals, juice and coffee. Have stayed in a lot worse places and paid a lot more. ! Will definitely stay here again.

City centre hotel-convenient for exploring

Posted 20-Apr-2014
Pros: Very comfy. Good value. Helpful owner who will guide you to places to see/eat in the town.
Cons: N/A
Location: -a historical place. - lots museums/historical buildings e.g Hotel de Ville, Calais Lighthouse, War Museum. Lace museum, Art Galleries
Very helpful owner, who speaks good English. Lovely breakfast. Although the hotel is being renovated it is comfortable and has everything you need for a few nights stay. I would recommend it to friends without reservation. Parking right next to the hotel at a small charge can be arranged with the owner.

Clean, convenient, friendly & economical

Posted 17-Apr-2014
Pros: Price. Location. Friendly welcoming management. Clean & comfortable.
Cons: Nothing! We stay in Calais for convenience as it is a long drive back to the north of England. And it perfectly suits our needs.
Location: Market is on Wed & Sat, but is small and mainly food produce. Cafe de Paris is highly recommended, great food & service. Au Beureau also a nice bar.
Very reasonably priced. Clean, comfortable room with a lovely view of the park. Modern clean shower room. Very friendly and welcoming. Secure parking at a reasonable price. Well located close to bars & restaurants in the centre of Calais, great for short stopovers. We are regulars passing through Calais, and stay over in transit regularly. This is one of the better low budget hotels, and I will definitely stay here again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, and I intend to book at least two more stays in June.
