“Gorgeous Hotel.”
A lovely hotel in wonderful peaceful surroundings. Large comfortable rooms with individual private balcony. Good friendly, helpful and personal service with wonderful food. Second time we've been here and wouldn't hesitate to go back - love it.
“Very Relaxing”
We booked in to Chateau Tilques for a few days of relaxation. We chose the hotel due to it's proximity to St. Omer having previously visited the town though it was our first visit to this hotel. The hotel was approximately 3 miles from St Omer. The pluses for the hotel were the pleasant grounds and the very impressive building. We spent one very liesurely day simply wandering around the grounds and sitting reading outside on the lawns. The main negative was that other than the hotel bar and restaurant there was very little in the surrounding area. St Omer however had plenty to offer and could be walked to via very pleasant rural back roads (it is possibly to avoid the busy main road). Local buses didn't seem to be available and the taxis were fairly expensive.
“Excellent location for travelling on after the Channel Tunnel”
Superb accommodation in elegant grounds. Have been before and will go again.
“Lovely grounds and character hotel”
Stayed here as a stopover from Calais ferry as a much better option than the town itself. Character hotel in a lovely setting and rural location, but still very handy for the ferry. Stayed with 2 young children of 4 and 2. In the modern block it was convenient for the family though without some of the character of the main house. Great area for a cycle as we had bikes with us and the ground swere lovely for the kids to play, though the rainy weather reduced this somewhat. Downside was it is not that well geared for young children, especially in terms of the restaurant, food times, room service and things of that nature. However, lovely setting and much better than Calais!
“Pretentious & overpriced, poor service - not impressed”
The room was small, a little shabby & not particularly clean - very overpriced. We joined breakfast at 9.30 to find most everything had gone. Service was unhelpful and when asked for breakfast items - staff said coming - but in the 30 minutes we waited nothing arrived. Pretentious, snotty hotel - to be avoided unless your world revolves around golf.
“Very relaxing weekend”
We were celebrting my husband's 60th Birthday with another couple. We primarily stayed for the restaurant which was very plush with excellent service. The food was above average and the wine were excellent. We were well looked after throughout our stay. The reception staff were welcoming and we were delighted to be upgraded to a deluxe room which had a lovely few of the lake.
“Fantastic.”
I stumbled across this place by accident and had always been a bit iffy about Pas de calais chateau's as generally a bit drafty and serving poorly prepared food covered in some horrible sauce. This place is different though. It's in its own little parkland at the end of the little town of Tilques, itself of no particular note. Nearby is a larger town of st martin au laert which has an great range of garden centre and bricolage shops etc that we like to snoop around in stocking up on things like the Gueppe- Frelon spray that is banned from sale in the UK. Or just the other cool stuff the french have that we don't . A little further on is St Omer which is as good a place as any for a bit of whicker chair action and a bit of a wander in a large French town. The town of Lumbres about 10 miles away has a good Le Clerc on the outskirts which is easy to access. Back to the Chateau, visually it is very attractive to drive up to. It is well laid out with a large nice bar area and a conservatory to sit in in the warmer months. The restaurant is excellent with a great menu and wine list. The Maitre'd was absolutely charming and professional. The food was presented beautifully and delicious. It was a really good dining experience. We had room 64 in the new block next to the chateau. really good sized and well equipped room. Very comfortable bed with quality linen. We chose not to have breakfast there as at 19euros each a bit too expensive for us
“Worth every penny!”
A lovely chateau in a lovely parkland setting but easy to find and handy as a stopover for the channel crossings. We were offered a free upgrade when we checked in but as it would be in the modern block adjacent to the chateau, declined the offer as it would defeat the obvious charm of staying in a chateau in the first place, much to the surprise of the staff! The room on the 1st floor was lovely, albeit a little small but overlooked the rear grounds down to the lake. Beautifully appointed bathroom and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was very good with the usual patisseries, meats, cereals etc although the scrambled egg looked and tasted as it was powdered rather than fresh. The egg boiler took ages but otherwise, delicious offerings and plenty to choose from. We took a walk in the grounds afterwards which was very pleasant around the lake and with the presence of peacocks. Look out for the quirky iron shutter latches on the ground floor - the shutters are no longer there but nice to such detail on the faces of the original catches!
“very pleasant stay”
we have stayed at this hotel many times over a number of years and found the hotel to be a pleasant experience some of the rooms in the main building can be on the small side but on this occasion we had a larger room the cleanliness is always of a high standard and never varies. the dining room is always enjoyable but we found the choice on the menu rather limited on this visit on the whole the stay was very enjoyable
“Perfect loaction near Calais”
An excellent hotel full of character which is very close to Calais. An idea location to take a break after a long drive in the UK down to the Tunnel and over to France. We also stayed on our return after a long drive through France. The room on our way out was superb, clean, very spaceous and full of character. The room on our return wasn't as large but was nonetheless very clean and full of character. The staff were very helpful and speak very good English, the food in the restarant was excellent, it was located in a separate building just a few meters from the main Chateau, this proved to be a bonus because you are able to look out through the very large windows over the large lawn to the front of the Chateau. As others have mentioned there is an indoor pool, large grounds with a lake which are nice to walk through. There are cattle adjacent the grounds and a couple of resident peacocks. We certainly would book again if driving through France.
