If you are looking to be pampered by a swanky high dollar hotel then this place is not for you. I found clean quiet surrounded by horse country beauty .A nothing fancy, no frills great place to stay on top of the big Island. The hotel staff is very friendly and the restaurant next door serves excellent food and has a well stocked bar. By yourself or with family, this is a great place to stay on one of the most beautiful parts of the island.
This hotel is beautifully designed, and sitting right on the white sand beach. We booked an ocean view room and was upgraded to an ocean front. Upon arrival and seeing the facilities, my family did not want to leave this hotel for sight-seeing. So we just stayed in the hotel for continuous four days. The room is spacious, and the furnitures are considerate picks. Towels are of good quality. The hotel staff and house keeping personel are all nice. The pool is large, clean, and never crowded. We enjoyed walking on the lawn and beach in the morning, and watching sunset in the evening. And of couse we had lots of fun on the Hapuna beach. Will definitely choose this hotel if we visit Big island again.
One thing that you need to know: it will take about 15 min drive to Waikoloa, or 20 min to Waimea, for food if you don't want to eat on site.
I love the Mauna Kea! No place like it in the world. It is so understated and not flashy. Just lovely old style Hawaii. Don't ever change too much MK because what makes you special is your tradition. Thank you! We will be back year after year because you make us relaxed and happy. Mahalo!
Wonderful place off the beaten path. Too get there you drive a one lane road though a rain forest like gulch. Although, the house is off the grid, you are not roughing it. They just use solar energy. I only stayed one night but if I stay on the Hilo side again for 1 day or a week, this is the first place I'll consider. A terror value. The breakfast is good, too!
