Just back from a 4 day stay at the Walhalla in St Gallen. The hotel is very well positioned for those arriving by rail as the station is about 20 paces away as is the main bus and tram terminus. despite this, the rooms are well insulated from noise.
Reception was very efficient with all hotel staff exceptionally friendly and willing to help. There are two lifts and even on the one day the hotel was busy during our stay (Scottish football press) we never waited more than 2 minutes for a lift to arrive.
Rooms are ultra modern and well fitted out with flat screen tv, minibar and free wifi. Coffee and tea are provided from a proper coffee machine. No sachets here! The bathroom was very modern and well provided with everything from soaps to earplugs and a sewing kit to slippers.
The hotel has a popular restaurant and breakfast was as good as it gets. The evening menu was very attractive but in keeping with most things in Switzerland, expensive. A good bet is the bar which has a fairly comprehensive food menu and good beer at fairly reasonable prices. This was very well used by non-residents. A very good choice of eating places is available within 5 mins of the hotel.
We were well satisfied with all aspects of our stay and highly recommend the Walhalla to fellow tourists or those on business.
USED THIS HOTEL WHILE VISITING ST GALLEN AND THE SURROUNDING AREA AND IT SERVED AS A GOOD BASE TO DO SO.I WAS SATISFIED WITH MY STAY AND WOULD CONSIDER REBOOKING IN THE FUTURE SHOULD I RETURN TO THE CITY.

The hotel is about a 45 minute walk from the main train station in St. Gallen, in a residential neighbourhood with a few restaurants close by. My room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was fabulous and the manager was very friendly and helpful.

The Linde hotel is a genuine Swiss hotel. It feels like a swiss alpine restaurant with a hotel pension in a quiet village not too far from larger cities. The owner was very friendly, welcoming and distinguished in the Swiss hospitality way (not the anglo-saxon overbearing way that we continental europeans do not like). The service was excellent and the room impeccably clean. The single room was extremely small but ok for 1 night stay. I would definitively come back.

It looks better in the photos than in actuality; it has been added on to and one half is used, the other is in semi-darkness. The may have free wi-fi, but I was not able to access it in any part of the hotel, not in the dining room, my room, the upstair den area or 5 feet from the main office. They have spa services, but unless you book it far ahead do not expect to get in; the owner does the treatments and also serves food. I asked to have my room changed to a better location for my husband with M.S. and the owner's son was hostile and unforgiving. The restaurant is good, but expensive, and it is near St. Gallen's famous abbey which is its one redeeming value. Do not expect to find a binder filled with travel information in your room to assist you.
