“Excellent service, shame about the hotel itself.....”
A shabby hotel which sounds better on paper than the reality. Tiny reception area and public lounge with the receptioinst hiding under the stairs. Our first room was very cramped with no storage space. When the bedside light and the wc broke on our last day, we were moved to another room which was excellent, much bigger and luxurious. Feels as though some rooms were excellent and some were not. Service from staff was excellent though.
“You should remove this hotel from your web site”
I have booked many hotels with Expedia, and always been very satisfied. This Hotel, was shown as being in the "Opera" neighborhood in Paris. Not true, the Hotel is in Pigalle, an area of prostitution, and sex shops. The problem I have is that I went with my elderly mother, and felt really unconfortable. The hotel, was unconfortable, small, smell very bad, nothing worked in the room, most of the lighting was off, sheets smelled very bad, covers were dirty, the iron didn't work, the place was a mess. I wrote an email from Paris, and explained how terrrible this hotel was.
“A memorable Montmatre experience”
With a visit to the Moulin Rouge during our stay in Paris we were looking for a suitable ambience in a 4 star hotel close to this world famous revue bar. The Villa Royal ticked all the boxes with its sumptuous red and gold decor and Toulouse Lautrec drawings on the lift walls. We loved the rooms being named after famous French artists rather than just being numbered. The breakfast room was charming, but a little small for the number of guests who were hoping to be seated at peak time. Altogether, however, a great place for a short stay soaking up the Montmatre atmosphere.
“Hardly a 4-Star”
We were so disappointed in this hotel. The room was so small we could not open the closet door. The room had many stains on carpet and mattress. We did ask for a larger room and they did accommodate us. Next room was cleaner and larger but still very small. The area did not feel safe where the hotel was located. There was a lot of prostitutes, street fighting, porn shops, noise all night long, police cars.... the 4-star designation was extremely misleading. The location was extremely convenient to the subway so it was easy to get around Paris.
“Flamboyant Paris at its best!!”
The hotel was tucked away in the corner of a square which was busy and full of life. We could easily walk to the Moulin Rouge and all the sights of Montmarte. Plenty of local shops and a metro station right on the doorstep of the hotel. We didn't have the hotel breakfast as it was far cheaper to go to the local bakery over the road next to the metro station. There was even an award winning bakery a few streets away. The hotel was very flamboyant and felt very decadent. But appropriate for Paris. The room was small but well equipped. But then with so much to do outside who needs lots of space? The only problem was the bathroom door. It was glass and didn't close correctly. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful. Check in and out was easy and we could leave our luggage all day before we travelled back home after we checked out. Will highly recommend and would stay again.
“not very impressed”
i thought the hotel was generally shabby and dirty. I will not go back.
“Nice hotel but a little noisy”
The hotel is located on a busy junction and as a consequence it was quite noisy at night. Aside of that the hotel is in an excellent location to explore Paris. the rooms are small, but are well decorated and clean and the hotel staff were very helpful.
“Surrounding neighbourhood”
The hotel's decore and upkeep was a bit tired and needed to be updated and cleaned. For the price I paid I expected a cleaner and fresher setting. The surrounding area was conveniently located for shops, metro, & the Montmartre area but at night it was a bit seedy due to all of the sex related shops and businesses.
“Not impressed AT ALL”
We were very disappointed at the size of the hotel. The room was extremely tiny, you couldn't even open the wardrobe because it hit the end of the bed. The room wasn't overly clean, the air conditioning didn't work which meant it was very stuffy. The biggest problem is the location. It's right in the middle of the red light district, with sex shops everywhere. A huge disco is located next door which pumps till 5am every morning which means you can't sleep with the door closed because the air conditioning doesn't work, and you can't sleep with the door open because of the road noise and the beat of the disco. The staff were very unfriendly and did not go out of their way to be helpful at all. There is only one channel on the TV in English and it's BBC so all you hear about is England. All in all I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anybody. The only good thing was there was a metro station right across the road.,
“Villa Royale”
A most unusual hotel, with rooms named after famous French people - so why did I have the John Lennon room? Decor is sumputious with leather padded doors, draped beds, marble washstands. If you like something out the ordinary this is the hotel for you. In the heart of Pigalle and about 500yds from the Moulin Rouge it is ideally placed. For cheap meals stay off the main street, there are plenty of inexpensive restaurants in the area. I would stay here again
