“Wonderful staff, excellent location”

We stayed at Hotel Victor Masse for a long weekend in Paris in October, and will definitely stay there again. The location is handy for the Metro, lots of lovely little cafes, shops, clubs and bars nearby, and ideally placed for a visit to the vibrant Monmartre area of Paris. The staff were brilliant - friendly and helpful and really accomodating. The room was fairly small but very clean and functional - ideal for a weekend spent out and about. Price was very reasonable too - I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a pleasant and inexpensive place to stay when exploring Paris.

“Great if you aren't there on a Friday or Saturday night”

The hotel was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was nice if you didn't venture too far north of the Gare du Nord. Pigalle Square was just two blocks away with restaurants and the metro station right there. The walk up to Sacre Couer and Espace Dali was short and pretty. It was close to board the double decker tour bus near the Moulin Rouge. BUT...on both Friday and Saturday nights the clientele from the sex club next door and the bar two doors down were making a racket including yelling, breaking bottles, screeching tires, etc. I feel bad for the hotel that their location is compromised by that because it really was a great hotel for a small price.

“Nice, clean hotel with easy access to Metro station for sightseeing”

A nice hotel with friendly staff. Room was quite compact but very clean, all you need as a base to go out sight seeing. Close to local Metro link which meant that getting around Paris to see the sights was easy. Continental breakfast was available at an additional charge if required. Internet access was also available in the reception area (probably with a charge) but didn't use this. The hotel was quite close to the Red Light district but the area could be avoided. All in all a nice friendly hotel in a central location with easy access to the main sights and attractions, would go again!

“Good choice”

I booked this hotel based on Expedia reviews and was very pleased. The location was great - neighbourhood was entertaining. Some nights were noisy, but we were so tired it didn't make much of a difference.

“Just to sleep in a clean place.”

Close to metro and rer but nights it seems not secure because of surruonding night clubs. It is a place to pass over.

“Small room but good value for money”

Hotel Victor Masse is a budget hotel located in the Pigalle district which is a rather seedy area of Paris but although we returned to the hotel at around midnight each night no problems were encountered. The location is within a short walk of Montmatre and the centre of Paris is walkable for those wishing to explore on foot. We walked to the hotel from the Gare du Nord but wished we hadn't because it was rather too hot to walk with cases. The nearest Metro station is Pigalle which is five minutes walk away and gives the choice of two metro lines. The hotel reception is clean with friendly staff who mainly spoke good English. There is a small breakfast room and two computers (small charges apply). Our room was at the back of the hotel and was very quiet. The bed was very clean and comfortable and the ensuite facilities were also very clean. The room was however very small and there was no bath only a shower but this worked very well. The room was serviced each morning and clean towels provided. Overall it was good value for money and ideal for a short break where you will only use the room for sleeping and showering.

“Not Satisfied”

Hotel has not air conditioned ,with no fan, is located in a very loud area and you need to leave the windows open. The area did not feel safe especially after dark. The claim that it was recently revovated not so!!!. The paint was peeling, room was small the bath had been updated but the toilet ran. There was no security lock on the door. Breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, juice, cereal, pastries, & rolls not much for the price. The area did not have many places get breafast open early. The staff was very helpfull and informative. The night watchman was not at the front desk several times at night and the door was open. Overall we were not happy with our stay.

“Pleasantly surprised”

After reading the reviews on Expedia and TripAdviser my husband and I prepared ourselves for a "less than pleasant experience" with the trade off being "it's affordable". We were pleasantly surprised by the Victor Masse. While the hotel rooms and decor are a little tired (other than the reception which has obviously been given a facelift recently) the rooms are clean (and VERY large by Paris standards!), the staff friendly and the hotel secure. The only minuses here - no air con (as you would expect at this price range) and the area being what it is is very noisy. We had a room with a window opening out onto the street.. we kept it open through the night (we have trouble sleeping without some air flow) and it was noisy enough in the early hours of the morning for us to need ear plugs! Bsut that's a mall price to pay for a good value for money Paris hotel in the heart of Pigalle!

“Excellent for a short stay.”

Nice little hotel and you get what you pay for. Do not expect a palace for the price but it is fine for a few days stay. The Metro is a 5 min walk and the open top bus tour stop is around a 10 min walk. This tour is a great way to see Paris. Gare de Nord Eurostar station is only a few Metro stops away although there is a line change required. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“Great Location Great Staff”

We stayed @ Hotel Victor Masse for 4 nights in March 2011. We were very pleased with the hotel, staff, and location and plan to stay there again. We found the hotel and nights to be quiet on this street. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from, within walking distance. The metro (with two great lines) is literally 2 blocks from the hotel. We felt safe and comfortable. The rooms on the front of the building (closer to street traffic) are larger than the rooms at the back of the building. However, the block this hotel is on does not have bars or noise at night. There is one, spiral stair-case and one, small elevator. Breakfast was fine: coffee, juice, bread, croissants, cereal. Room was clean. Staff were friendly & professional.

Area recommendations
Hotel Victor Masse is in the 9th Arrondissement (neighborhood), called "Pigalle". We really liked this area (better than where we stayed before). It is just south of Montmartre where the famous Sacre Coeur is. All within easy walking distance we found: metro, restaurants, bakeries, post office, pharmacy, art, churches, shopping (clothes, souvenieres, etc) It is easy (10-15 minutes) to get anywhere else by metro, from this location. On there main street, where you will find "The Moulin Rouge" there are sex shops - but they were not a threat. We also like arrondissement #1 iles de city; #2 Blvd Haussman; #5/6 Latin Quarter/St Germain
Getting around
Use the Metro. It is very easy, you just need to get used to it. We did not buy a "visitor" card or pass (unlimited) and saved money by just buying tickets. Ask for a "Carnet" - which is a group of 10 tickets - you get for 12 euro (instead of 10 x 1,70 = 17 euro). 1. Find your starting & ending point on a map. 2. Note the Number for the metro line you start with. 3. Each line has two names at the ends - this shows you direction and destination. Know which direction you are going in. Note the end destination name (so you get on the train going the right way). 4. Note any "connections" - you will simply get off at one stop; walk to the other line; and get back on a different train (traveling on a new numbered line and toward a new destination) 5. Continue in same manner until you exit the system, at your end destination. 6. Inside all trains are maps, and the stops marked; and you can monitor your progress. 7. You run your ticket back through the machine upon EXIT only. It is now unusable (but hold on to it during trip; you may be asked for it) Voi La!
Must see
The Opera Garnier: take a tour (English & other lang. offered); offered twice a day; buy your ticket just inside main entrance. Amazing! As good as, or better than, Versailles.
