“Quite pleased”

I enjoyed my stay very much. The location is excellent in all ways-transportation,shops,museums and activities. My special requests were addressed and although there was a slight delay upon check in, Virginie made my wait comfortable and me feel that my time and myself were valued. I really like the way the entire staff was aware of their guests and represented the hotel positively. There are many lovely hotels and many oportunities for a discriminating traveller in Paris but the Hotel Scribe provides great accomodation at an excellent price.

“Worth a stay at Scribe”

Overall I had a very good experience at the Scribe. The Hotel itself is beautiful and the staff were very friendly and professional. The rooms are well appointed and clean however small but after all it is Paris. The hotel's location might be it's best asset. It's centrally located right next to the Paris Opera with numerous stores and restaurants within walking distance. It's also only blocks from the Louvre and other important sights.

“Amazing hotel!”

One of the nicest hotels I've stayed at! Awesome location in the opera district that's super convenient to all the sites in Paris! Our room was very clean and modern and housekeeping kept it clean everyday. The concierge was very helpful in getting us reservations and helping us with directions. Very polite! Loved every second of our stay at the scribe!

“Not entirely impressed”

Although our overall impression of the hotel was very grand our "luxury room" was a little disappointing as we were facing the internal courtyard looking down on the glass-roofed lounge area which was brightly lit until 2.00-3.00am some nights. The bathroom was not properly clean on arrival, there were long black hairs stuck to the tiling above the bath and behind the bathroom door and the room decoration needed a little tlc in places. Breakfast, which we took twice, was inordinately expensive for what was provided at 30+ Euros each and we got a much better deal and breakfast at the cafe round the corner! On the positive side,the location was superb and the staff were very courteous and helpful. I would recommend with a reserve not to expect too much from the description.

Area recommendations

The Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Les Invalides, Musee de L'Orangerie in the Tuilleries, L'Opera Garnier, The Seine, The Conciergerie for their culture, the paintings, the sheer magnificence of the buildings. The buses, trains and batobuses for the ease of travelling aorund the city.

Late May, early June because the streets and squares are deadly when the temperatures start to climb.

Getting there

If you travel by Eurostar from St Pancras, check out the seating arrangements. Unless you go minimum Leisure Class, you might as well be in a cattle wagon. Quite intolerable. Nothing like the adverts. We paid another 80 Euros each for an upgrade for the return journey. AND make sure you leave enough time. There are so many people to board in twenty minutes that you need to be there ready to move at least one hour before check in!

Getting around

Local transport is excellent and frequent, but time it right or you could be standing on a crowded bus for quite a while. There seems to be no control over number of standing passengers in busy times.

Must see

Apart from all the usual, the Monet exhibition of Lilies in Musee de L'Orangerie". Simply stunning!

Dining

Try the local eateries, there is a large number of varying establishments, hotel dining is very expensive.

“Paris vacation”

Hotel was centrally located, could walk to the Louve, close to public transportation, a lot of very nice sidewalk cafes to eat at. Hotel was rather pricey for meals, so we didn't eat there, not even for breakfast (which is NOT included).. Would definitely stay there again.

“perfect”

The Scribe is simply a wonderful hotel! The service team (concierge, reception, staff etc), services provided, the beauty of the furniture and utensils used in the renovation of the building, food (restaurant, bar and room service), location, everything is perfect! Finally, this is undoubtedly my new second home in Paris. No longer be accepted at another hotel (and I've tried several 5 star hotels, but none can compare). Congrats!

Area recommendations

The Scribe is one of the best places in paris. Next to the Opera and Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, great stores internationally renowned brands (Cartier, Gucci, Prada, Armani, Hugo Boss, etc.), restaurants and all that Paris has to offer tourists the best, without the hassle of tourists when they in other points of tourist visits required of the city (Champs Elysees, Eiffel Tower, Louvre, etc. etc.). Excellent!

“Great time in Paris”

The hotel was clean and well staffed. The rooms are a bit small but that it to be expected in Paris due to the cost of space. The hotel is very well situated (within a comfortable walk to the Louvre and Arc de Triomphe).

“An excellent alternative to a 5-star hotel, but at half of the cost of the very top tier!”

I am very comfortable to stay at the truly top tier of hotel in Paris. When i first booked my trip, I was looking to stay at the Ritz, Athenee or Bristol, all of which are first rate. None was available because of the busyness of the season. I was not familiar with The Hotel Scribe, though I was quite familiar with the neighborhood. It is directly across the street from the Grand Opera House. It was first rate in almost every category. I will plan to stay there regularly. Walking distance to Louvre, Rue St Honore shopping among other things. Staff was excellent across the board. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Well appointed for normal tourist and business traffic.

Area recommendations

This hotel is ideally situated for easy walking to haute couture shopping, the Louvre, Place Vendome and Place Concorde. The Left Bank, Notre Dame and Champs Elyssee is not as easy to walk. But as a tourist, this is a great neighborhood and easy and safe to get around.

Dining

Finest restaurant in the world is the George V. Most of the other 4-star Michelin are overpriced and disappointing. Fine dining is available in many places. Don't go to the very top rated unless you are really looking for something in particular. Take an extra day to go to Versailles, but go early to get ahead of the crowds, which are generally large.
