“Basic”

Not worth the high cost for a basic hotel, however the room was clean and the bed was comfortable

“Great neighbourhood”

The hotel is typical of centre Paris hotels. Small rooms but comfortable for the needs of the sightseer. Close to good bistros/restaurants and convenience stores. Cosmopolitan surroundings. Centre of the rag trade yet convenient for Metro and stations.

Area recommendations
As Stated above the hotel is walking distance from Gare Du Nord where Eurostar arrives. Walk down to hotel but catch bus/ cab up hill to station!!
Dining
We (my wife and I) dined at Les Enfants Perdu. Great cuisine. Danced at Chez Gegene at Joinville Le Pont Good French music.

“Handy for the Eurostar”

Pleasant hotel with typically small rooms. Bed was large and comfortable and everything was clean. It is about 10 minutes walk to the Gare du Nord (Eurostar). I would use it again. Don't bring a car

“good price”

The hotel has good rates but it's not covenient for business travellers. The room I had was very small with a veiw on other room within 1m distance. No natural light. I kept my courtins closed for all stay to make sur I'm not observed.

Other
close to Gard du Nord - taxi only 6euros.

“Basic and expensive”

We all know Paris is an expensive city to stay in but this one really did take the biscuit. After searching for somewhere close to Gare du Nord I followed recommendations here (and elswhere) as Magenta looked a bit more like a change from the usual chain hotels and I thought it was worth investing in the increased charge -for one night only, during a stop over. This was a MISTAKE!The room has to be the smallest I have ever stayed in and for Paris this of course is really saying something. To pay over the odds for one night and get something the size of a cell where you really could not move is just not acceptable.Another deciding factor was that breakfast was included-indeed a rarity these days but you would be hard pushed to find anywhere that serves a more paltry excuse for making this worthwhile.Really would recommend anyone thinking this is a good choice to either pick a better hotel without breakfast and spend your money choosing somewhere you would like to go or stay further outside the city centre in a better hotel and get a taxi to the centre if it's only for the odd night.Really ended our holiday on a bit of a bummer and the feeling that we were being absolutely robbed. These folks really do not deserve our custom.Basic hotel with the most basic service for an expensive price. At half the price I would have felt they were having a laugh.Don't even think about it!

Area recommendations
As mentioned convenience doesn't turn out to be convenience when you are paying well over the odds for a bed for the night.Next time I will look further afield and spend my money on travelling in an out of the city for the sake of a better quality hotel. This just wasn't worth it!
Getting around
You will need lots of ready cash to stay in Paris even for the shortest time but it is worth investing in a taxi or two to save time and get around to where you really want to go,distances can be quite acute and you can see more for the sake of a few taxi fares as opposed to getting lost or wearing yourself out pounding the streets! Don't forget to learn the most basic French phrases to make sure you get the best out of your waiter, taxi driver, shop assistant etc, they do seem to appreciate the effort even if (like me) you mis-pronounce most of the words!

“Not as conventient as I had hoped.”

Hoped that I would be within easy walking distance of the RER to the airport, but wasn't really. The place was good enough, but you can do a lot better for the money. The neighborhood was busy with traffic and little else so we had to walk some distance to find a good restaurant.

“Decent for the price”

We booked this hotel mostly because we needed somewhere to stay immediately after arriving in Paris via Thalys train. From that point of view, the location was great (short walking distance from Gare du Nord and Gare de l'est). The hotel itself was nothing amazing, but not a negative experience. The room was a fair size (maybe even large for a European room), the bathroom was decent, and the room setup was okay. The hotel was decently clean, I was not disappointed, though everything seemed a tad "worn" and "old". The bathroom and bed were both clean and comfortable enough. The service was quite good, though we didn't have any real demands or special requirements; still the gentlemen at the front desk were polite and pleasant (and spoke very good English). A word of advice, the location is extremely noisy. Paris in general is a very noisy city (constant sirens, constant loud scooters and motorbikes), and this hotel is on a pretty major street so the street noise continues well into the late hours of the night. Light sleepers should definitely consider staying elsewhere or sleep with ear plugs. I couldn't seem to get any real temperature control working so we also slept with the windows wide open, which obviously exacerbated the noise. To summarize, the hotel is good, not great, not poor, and probably offers decent value (hotels in Paris can be very expensive for not much more than the Magenta offers).

Area recommendations
I am not a great fan of Paris itself. I don't buy the whole "romance" notion; to me it is the dirtiest, and most crowded of all the European cities (and I've been in far larger cities and not had those complaints), so my recommendation would be try and leave Paris for a day or several days. The Loire valley is beautiful and rustic while still offering a wealth of things to do. France's countryside in general is amazingly beautiful, get out and enjoy it. That said, the Louvre is still probably the most amazing museum in the world, so if you are going to Paris, go there.

“Nice place”

A hidden treasure just a few minutes walking from the Gare de l'Est. A high quality place with very reasonable pricing. Lots of North African places to eat nearby, too.

“Worked for us!”

It is not a centrally located hotel, (as in near the Eiffel Tower), however, we found it very convenient as we were only 5 mins. from the Metro stop. It's easy to use. Get a 2 day ticket which covers as many trips as you like, if you are there for more than 2 days. Within walking distance to Gare du'Nord and Gare L'Est. Plenty of Bistro's in neighbourhood. The breakfast was adequate. Continental breakfast. We paid for a Superior room which had a king sized bed. However, the room was very small and only enough room around the bed to squeeze along. No room for us to leave a suitcase open! We did have our own shower and toilet which is a great thing! Very clean. If you get a room overlooking the street, it is quite noisy as it's a busy street if you leave the window open. It is air conditioned so quiet with the window closed. We had no problem sleeping. The receptionist was very helpful with maps, etc. There is a luggage room to leave your things if you are early. For the price it was good.
