Le Ballu is a great small hotel option in the Saint Lazare/Pigalle area of 9th arrondissement. The hotel itself is very nice inside, love the deep colors, staff was very attentive and helpful. We had one dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was top quality and a nice ambiance in the back courtyard, plus excellent wine by the glass at reasonable prices. Our room was a bit bigger than Paris-standard, nicely laid out, very cool finishes. And the bed was sooooo comfortable! The area around the hotel is a real Paris neighborhood, which was great. Extremely quiet street, but just around the corner everything you could want in terms of coffee, different food options, etc. Walking distance to Gare Saint Lazare if you need that, and Metro close by. Far enough from the nightlife of Pigalle, which we don't need, but you could get there easily if you wanted that.

Nice convenient location as walking distance to Gare du Nord, Gare de l'Est, and the Metro. Lots of restaurants, grocery stores all within 1-2 blocks. Only issue is they need to have some homeless people leave that area and it may be concerning

I was in Paris on business for 1 night, and unfortunately chose the wrong hotel. The location is fine if you want to be in the middle of things as a tourist, but it looks out over a busy road junction/ pedestrian area and with hindsight, I should have looked properly and chosen a quieter road. It's right next to Gare de l'est and asides from between midnight and about 6am, there was the sound of metro trains travelling underground every 2 or 3 minutes. The room was quite small but clean. A bit scruffy with no desk or place to work. I thought the website was unclear as it says "our room service is open 24 hours". When I got there, it was made clear there was "no food" - I would have preferred a meal in the room and to work in the evening, but couldn't do either of those. I think the room service is just for snacks from a vending machine or something similar. Communication with the guy on the front desk when I arrived was tricky, my basic French and his basic English meant there were a couple of things I wasn't sure of. I was thinking of going for a run in the evening and was pleasantly surprised to see the hotel had provided a 5KM running route along the nearby canal. I thought I'd give it a go, but wouldn't recommend it. Much of the canal path is inaccessible or cobbled, and while the area was OK, the canal was lined with loads of people sat on the banks of the canal smoking weed. Not really a place to exercise. Should have chosen a more boring "business" hotel.

I have stayed in numerous hotels in a variety of areas in Paris. This hotel was in a good location (for ease of transportation). The surrounding area was not the best but it is ok if you are used to being in a city. The beds were comfy, plush towels and robes were an extra benefit. The staff was excellent- super friendly and certainly went the extra mile to help any request. The noise from the subway/trains was present but we were always so exhausted that it didn’t matter. Maybe just pack some earplugs for sleeping. The air conditioning was great too! Overall a great place!

Hotel was easy to locate and clean. Check in was fast and easy. Room had no working AC though and it was very hot and stuffy. We slept with the window open for the breeze but got no sleep due to the street noise. Breakfast was very nice and well stocked. I’d stay again, if the room I get had AC

The staff were friendly and helpful, although the room was a bit small. We didn’t like the shower set-up - a small corner unit with a shower curtain. The entrance was also hard to spot from the street.

I would rate this between 3-4 (average to very good). The hotel is ideally located close to Gare Du Nord (a ten minute walk) and across from Gare d l’est. There is also a metro stop right outside. You have to buzz the door to get inside every time, having a key work on the door would be better. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were able to leave our bags as we arrived before check in and the hotel helpfully had them placed in our room for when we checked in. There is no actual baggage room (that I was aware of) so I did not leave personal items. The rooms were nice and the bed was very comfy. They weren’t the biggest but I found it had enough room for us to walk around. The shampoo and shower gel were refilled on a daily basis. A kettle or coffee machine in the room would have been ideal. The walls were quite thin and we could hear banging in the room above us. The location itself didn’t have the best feel about it but we never felt unsafe. There was a supermarket just next to the hotel. Overall we had a nice stay here and the location was good for access to the metro to get us where we needed to go.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel The lobby and entrance are tiny and horrible. The carpet in the room is old and dirty. The room is far from what shown on the website. Location is bad too. Don’t even choose to eat breakfast there. Over all will give this hotel a 2 star

Fantastic hotel, service and location
This hotel was fantastic. Check-in and check-out we’re super easy, they checked my bag before check-in when we got to Paris, and kept my bag for the entire day after check-out before we caught our train home in the evening. It was super convenient being across the street from the Gare de l’Est. Everyone was very kind and accommodating. The room was small but clean and had everything we needed. They even a couple drinks in the mini fridge in the room waiting for us. Everything was really great and I’d stay there again in a second. Probably stay there when we head to Paris again. Not too expensive, definitely worth the money.

Just a Stopover Hotel
Le Marcel is located near all the train stations. The stay at the hotel was comfortable. However the exhaust from the kebab shop would drift upwards of your room is facing the road. Room and shower was great, I rest well before my trip home. Breakfast was mediocre. Rather disappointed that there was no choice of eggs for breakfast for a 4-star hotel. Worse case was no bacon or sausage for 2nd day of stay. Compliments to Raner for his excellent service and helpfulness, compared to the other front desk staff who was totally unhelpful.

Only scramble eggs for breakfast. No sausage no bacon… 😩

Service and rooms are subpar
Luckily I only had to stay one night. Check in wasn’t very smooth. The concierge seemed confused on everything - payment, where my bags were (dropped them off early prior to check in time), forgot to ask for my passport and later came up to grab it. Later on for check out when asking for a cab to the train statin I was told they couldn’t find me one. Later I found out on my own that there was a strike and the trains were down due to a storm. I believe these are things the concierge should know. Room was ok. Very small but what you can expect for the price and location. There was a stain on the sheets which didn’t make me feel so comfortable sleeping on them. I would not recommend. There are plenty of other places to go in the city.

It's a good price-quality transaction. The hotel is located near two large train stations that connect you with the most touristic attractions of Paris. The place is clean and the personnel very kind. The rooms, however, are smaller than it seems in the pictures.

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us following your recent experience at Le Marcel Hotel. We are glad to read that you enjoyed your quiet room with sound proof windows, as well as our friendly and helpful staff. It is a pleasure to read that you appreciated our location nearby a grocery store and a lot of restaurants. However, we regret to read that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Please know that we are a boutique hotel and that we do offer more spacious rooms that would be more suited to your needs. Nevertheless, we want to apologize for the incomplete shower and your hard bed. We take note of these comments in order to improve our service that we offer to our valued guests. In regards to our location, our hotel is located in a very central and lively neighborhood nearby the train station Gare de l’Est. Therefore, you have easy access to public transport from where you can discover Paris in a very comfortable way. Despite your comments we hope that we can welcome you again in the near future. Very nice place to stay, the only issue is the are where is located is not too friendly but overall the Hotel was very good and very close to the metro.

Friendly staff and they have a a better supplies of toiletries as well. The bed and linens are good quality.

Very satisfied , services were great, the personnells were nice and professionally polited I would recommend friends and others to consider staying at Hotel Le Marcel while they’re in town.
