Not cheap, but good

Posted 02-Oct-2014
Location: Good location. Lots of cafes and bistros in little streets nearby.
I stayed for 5 nights. The location is excellent, about 2 minutes from the Luxembourg RER station. The room was clean and comfortable, but very small, even by Paris standards. Yes, I know that hotels there are expensive, and I know that rooms can be small, but this really was tiny. Nowhere to put luggage, nowhere to put clothes, apart from a partitioned space in a corner with a rail and, fortunately, plenty of clothes hangers. However, Paris is wonderful. You don't go there to sit in a palatial hotel room, so if you want somewhere with a comfortable bed where you can recover from being a tourist, then this hotel is fine.

Friendly staff in a good location

We had a very good experience at the Hotel des Mines. The room was small (pretty much a given in Paris) but comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. I liked how they recognized us and knew our room number after only a day or two into our stay. Our only complaint was that the wifi didn't really extend to our room, which was on the fifth floor. Other than that, this is a great hotel for the tourist who is looking for something located within walking distance of most major attractions in Paris.

Close to Luxembourg Garden and the "B" metro line.

My family (2 adults and 2 children) stayed here for three nights. We did not spend much time at the hotel. However for sleeping it was great. We were on the third floor, courtyard side room. You can hear the metro rumble, in a distant muffled way. We live in the middle of nowhere USA and our house is extremely quiet at night. We all slept well at this hotel.

A clean, well-located place.

Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
Location: See above.
The location is ideal, being a two-minute walk from the Jardin de Luxembourg and a fifteen-twenty minute walk for the Gare de Montparnasse and its fine, reasonably priced restaurants. Tourist schlock is far away. The rooms might feel small for North Americans accustomed to vast spaces, and the spare walls might feel empty for those who need those mass-produced landscapes found in US motels. However, the spaces are immaculate, bathrooms are commodious, the double windows keep out the Boul'Mich traffic noise, and above the beds are lights for reading in bed. One feels the passage of the RER trains below, but at the 3rd floor and above, they provided a soothing, faint rumble familiar to those with experience midwest. The breakfasts are fine and filling, and the staff patient and helpful.

Basic, but very convenient good value

Posted 15-Jul-2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel is very basic, and the rooms are quite small. The bed is extremely comfortable, and while small, the bathroom is functional and actually quite nice. Compared to similar hotels, this hotel is pretty good value for money, especially considering it is less than 100 meters from the Luxembourg metro station and in the middle of the Latin Quarter. There are loads of clubs, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Overall, good hotel!

4 day stay - single traveler

Posted 11-Jul-2014
Pros: how close it was to a metro station.
Cons: Staff can be more helpful with their foreign travelers.
Location: The metro station is close by.
Location of the hotel was a 1 minute walk close to the Luxemburg metro station. So that was very nice. But, the hotel is on a fairly quiet street. Being by myself, it would have been nice to have a hotel in a location where I could go later at night. The staff spoke English so that was nice and helpful but they didn't go out of their way to give me information. I had to ask about internet service and maps and breakfast. They didn't tell me that the hallway lights are always turned off and I have to find the switch and turn them on.

Highly recommended. Excellent location, and my room was surprisingly large (by Paris standard, indeed).

Great access - RER B train a block away, straight shot to Orly in one direction, DeGaulle in the other. Walk toward the Pantheon for restaurants. Walk to Luxembourg garden and streets on the far end of the Senate building. Good breakfast but for 10 euro each (unexpected charge) you could do better at the cafe attached to Hotel Observatoire up the street. They gave us a ground floor room opening onto courtyard because our rate was 5 euro less that the posted rate.
