“Great location, good value, but definitely a one-star property.”

This hotel is conveniently located with access to several Metro lines. The rooms are sparsely furnished and fairly clean, but the beds aren't comfortable. The pillow was awful. The walls are paper thin, so even the slightest noise from your neighbors can be heard - use your imagination here - it is Paris after all. The elevator is tiny. Be prepared to use the stairs. Ask for a room on a lower floor. The neighborhood is great. Lots of inexpensive cafes and restaurants close by. It's a less touristy area, so you can have a more authentic experience than if you stay in a chain hotel closer to the museums and attractions.

“Will not stay there even for free”

The hotel only looks nice on pictures! Although the service was good, the hotel it self its not. Barely one person can fit in the lift and the hallways are really cramped. The room was very small with not A/C! The bathroom is really small and you can barely fit inside the shower. The bed looked like it hasn't been changed or washed. The hotel is not in a bad location but will not stay there ever. We did not spend the night, too hot and noisy. Ended up going to a Holiday Inn.

Area recommendations
We stayed at the Holiday Inn in front of the Gare d l'Est. Pretty nice area! Lots of cafés, pharmacy and a MonoP (like a 7-11). The train station at Gare d l'Est has several connecting lines so its pretty convenient.
Getting there
The best and cheapest way is to get on the RER train B from Charles De Gaulle airport to Paris.
Getting around
Buy the NaviGo train card. That's the best way to move around the city. The Metro is fantastic!

“sent to hospital by hotel window”

The first day I arrived at the hotel I noticed that left half of the double window in my room was loose and came down easily. I mentioned this to the front desk who didn't seem to take me seriously. The next day I assumed that the window had been fixed because it was shut. a different positon from where I had left it. Oh no, it was still quite broken, came off of its hinges and landed squarely on my right foot. I thought I was going to die right there it hurt so badly. Ultimately I ended up in a Parisan ER til almost 4AM. My foot wasn't broken, but my window wasn't fixed for two more days. The hotel wanted us to keep the window closed, but we were on the 4th floor with no AC and the stench from the bathroom was terrible, so we risked dealing with the window to survive the smell and the heat. No one at the hotel offered to help me in any way.....they wouldn't move us to another room, accomodate us with payment for our trouble, etc., etc. It was obvious the whole staff knew what had happened....our floor maid to whom I had said nothing of my injury asked how my foot was doing. She was the only concerned being at the hotel. There are plenty of other hotels in this area...I'd avoid this one.

“Perfect Location for exploring Paris on foot.”

Great neighbourhood, not touristy, feels like real Paris. Hotel is close to Eurostar. Hotel is also very close to Metro Parmentiers, although we found ourselves walking almost everywhere we needed to as Republique is around 10mins walk away and from there it seems it is possible to walk down one main road to anywhere you need in Paris! Room was clean and we had more room than expected. Views from windows were fine from 5th floor. Needs updating but everything was in working order with good hot shower. Lift really can only hold one person at a time, possibly sucking in! But this is the only downside and we didn't find it too much hassle to take turns in the lift. The only other downside was that the walls are paper thin, in the morning(9am) it seemed as though the cleaner was trying to demolish the floor above us. Would definitely stay here again for perfect location and safe neighbourhood with everything you could need nearby.

Area recommendations
Le Marais. The gay area of Paris, lovely vintage shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants. Trendy and safe. Around 15-20 mins walk down to the river where you can visit all the tourist sites. Stay away from Rue faubourg de temple!! Really run down area, not pleasant at all. However I really recommend the moroccan restaurant one block from Metro Belleville, excellent steak frites and other combinations for 7.50 euros, one building along from the red bar on the corner which seems to have a great nightlife.

“Basic but clean”

Hotel is very basic but clean and very close to metro so you can get quickly pretty much everywhere you want to go. The only thing I didn't find to my liking - you can't consume food in the hotel room. I would still recommend. Good value for the money you are paying.

“small, clean and in great location”

We stayed for four days in this hotel located near the Oberkampf road. The hotel is literally 2 minutes walk from the metro and in the centre of the city so all of the city's attractions are easily accessible. Oberkampf road itself is great as well with loads of small bars and restaurants - quite lively especially at the weekend. The hotel itself is very clean, modern and they changed all the bed linen and towels every two days. The room was small but perfectly liveable and in the centre of Paris I suppose you cant expect much more.

When to go
Getting there
What to pack
Must see
Outdoors or beach

Bastille - Republique 11), Paris, France: Northeast of Place de la Bastille, this working-class neighbourhood is gradually becoming fashionable with younger Parisians. Trendy boutiques, cafés and bars are replacing the older shops and bistros, although some old-fashioned workshops survive. Left-wing sentiments are aired here annually on 14th July when France commemorates the Revolution. A few paving stones mark the site of the former Bastille prison.
