“Not pleasant”
The receptionists help was minimal. A point in the direction of the stairs was the sum of his guidance to our room. The dark and dismal interior on arrival was not enhanced by the triple set of stairs also in the gloom and held up with duck tape everywhere. The room was shabby with no kettle for a welcoming arrival cuppa. The walls showed signs of dampness, the curtains hadn't been cleaned since the war, wires were hanging out from the bed light switches, the bathroom floor was soaked from leaks from the sink and cistern and no amount of complaint rectified this. Pipes in the shower and all exterior pipes were rusty with pealing paint. The restaurant downstairs remained a mystery to us.
“Clean and basic.”
We spent 3 nights at this hotel in October. It's difficult finding lodging for 4 people in Paris, but this hotel had a quad room at a reasonable price. The surrounding neighborhood isn't bad, the metro is within easy walking distance. There isn't much in the way of food in the area, but we were out sightseeing anyway. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I believe breakfast was offered, but we never ate there. The room is very crowded with 4 beds in it, but everything was clean. The shower is tiny, but I think this is pretty standard as well. The biggest negative was no elevator, but it's an old building and I knew there was no elevator when I booked it. We were on the 3rd floor (which is the 4th floor in the US) so it was challenging with luggage for 4, but overall we enjoyed our stay. If you are looking for someplace clean, basic, and reasonably priced, this would be a decent choice.
“Not Impressed”
The hotel is very basic and had very narrow flight of stairs (no lift). Will be hassle if you live up in higher floors. There's no fan (saw there's heater in the room for colder time of the year). Opening the window would mean noise from outside. The location is fairly convenient within 5min walk to Richard Lenoir Metro (entrance is on the other side of the road (separate by a park in the middle) on Boulevard Richard Lenoir. I would pay a tad more for a better hotel (Ibis is just a stone throw away)
“Worst place I ever stayed in.”
Old and poorly maintained, no elevator, taking your luggage on the narrow staircase is a real challenge, prone to accidents. Rooms have been refurbished but there is no ventilation, You cannot sit on the toilet because of lack of space. Horrible.
“Not horrible, but not great”
My expectations weren't high; it is a 2 star hotel and I'm familiar with Paris. The staff was very helpful and kind. The bathroom was clean, as were the sheets; 2 things that are important for me. In general, I was comfortable. On the other hand, the reading lights on the bed didn't work; and it probably was just a case of changing the light bulbs; this was a matter of neglect. Also, the shower was pitiful. There was clearly the means to mount the detachable shower head to take a true shower, but the hardware had not been replaced to make this so; also neglect. This is not a bad hotel per say, but don't overpay: it is what it is...a 2 star hotel in Paris.
“Not impressed”
The first impression you will have is that the hotel is of an old wrecked building I mean a low life place. The blankets are all so worn out you can even see thorugh then and the mattress is so old that it has no shape. I think they should explaine better the condition of the hotels that way people can actually choose something they think is good for them.
“Looking forward to third stay”
This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel in two years. I was once again thrilled with everything about it. The outstanding staff, cleanliness and location make the price more than fair. The Bastille metro station is a short walk away or there is a smaller station across the street. Velib bikes are also readily available. The windows are soundproof (almost necessary for this area) yet they are also easy to open when it comes time to let some fresh air in. Although we did not spend much time in the room, we found the newly installed flat-screened tvs to be a very nice touch. I rarely stay at 2-star hotels anymore, but this is one I look forward to staying in again. I'd also like to add that our fellow hotel guests were as respectful as the staff.
“A Place To Sleep”
Do not expect a lot more than a place to sleep from this hotel. The neighbor hood and location are great but the hotel itself is old and in need of updates. Our bathroom was roomy but there was a hole in the ceiling to access water pipes - cosmetic things that detract from the atmosphere of the place. Our room was relatively clean and we slept comfortably but it was not a place I wanted to hang out in more than necessary. There is a park directly across the street where you can access free wifi through the city of Paris which was helpful. There is a grocery store next door and there are lots of places to eat near by with reasonable prices. The price was right for the neighborhood, looking at other nearby hotels - their cost was double so if you want to go cheaper, no frills, but comfortable - this is the place for you.
“No surprises”
The hotel met our needs. Good balance between cost, comfort and convenience.
“Better than I thought”
We enjoyed staying at the Hotel Aux Trois Portes. It was clean and at a reasonable price. We did have to climb many stairs to the 3rd floor though. We could also hear other guest coming to their rooms late at night that were on our floor. It did wake me up each time. We also drank out of 2 of the glasses that didn't get washed the next day. But for the price and location the positive weighed out the negative. It was also close to a metro and a store nearby that we could buy fruit and muffins. The breakfast at the hotel was a bit too pricey for us.
