“You get what you pay for”
Great location , staff friendly. Hotel really needs updating . Shower was bad , had to hold the shower by hand to use. TV poor, wifi didn't, work, it really is a budget hotel no frills .
“Friendly, functional and well positioned.”
Friendly, functional and in a good position for local restaurants, bars and the metro. In a quiet street just off the main shopping street.
“Grand Hotel De Turin Review - November 2011”
Good weekend at the Hotel. Friendly, clean, good value and good breakfasts. Child friendly. Will stay there again in future. Martyn
“Excellent!”
This hotel was fantastic, probably the friendliest hotel staff I have ever encountered and speak a host of languages fluently. The rooms are great and the aesthetic of the hotel is top quality. It was a great price for quality and location, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
“If only the condition of the hotel matched the service”
This is certainly not a terrible hotel so I will start with it's good points. The staff are extremely friendly and are very helpful, they all speak excellent english! It is a very easy hotel to find as it is only about a 4 minute walk from Pigalle Metro Station. There are plenty of places to eat and drink around the area too. The main issue I had with this hotel was that being a light sleeper I could hear anyone coming to their room because of the lack of sound insulation in my room. I'm a joiner by trade so I know that this would be a very easy problem to rectify. My room was very small and the bracket for the shower head was only fixed to the wall just above the tap, so I couldn't stand under the shower head and I had to hold it above me instead. The only other issue I had was the lift didn't go up to my floor so I had to carry my suitcase up a flight of stairs. This could be a really great hotel if a little bit of thought went into it.
“Good but not great”
The hotel is nicely situated in a quiet road near the busy Place Pigalle. The nearest Metro station is 5 minutes' walk and there are shops and restaurants close by. The main "adult entertainment" area is nearby, though not immediately adjacent. The Sacre Coeur cathedral is the biggest local attraction and takes about 15 minutes (more if you are unfit - there are 220 steps up!) The hotel itself is described as "traditional", which gives it some charm, but also some drawbacks. Good: convenient location, very friendly and welcoming staff. Not so good: poor internal soundproofing; noisy plumbing which can be heard throughout the hotel; TINY lift; too many extra charges. The lift will take 2 people as long as they are very good friends and don't have much luggage. The rate for breakfast may be common to local hotels, but there are much better value alternatives nearby - try the organic cafe. The hotel charges for wifi and also for use of the old and very slow computers in reception. It also charges for use of the in-room safe, which is unusual.
“good value for money”
good value for money, pleasant, helpful staff.
“Hotel De Turin was the only mistake in our Europian Itinerary”
We canceled our 4 day stay at this hotel after the first night stay. We are seasoned travelers. The room key is a traditional key not a digital card. So you worry about security at the start. The key fails to open the door and after many attempts you call the front desk. The same guy comes up, opens the door and gives you a disdainful look and does not accept the thanks. There is a trick to opening the door. You enter and it is dark, you turn the lights on. Old pieces of furniture is very scant. The bed looks uninviting and you do not see the bathrooms at first. Then you find the tiny bathrooms. One person at a time please. You lie in bed worrying about bed bugs. There is no carpeting and the wooden floor is color of termite chemical treated wood. Darker greenish. Bed is set low and is uncomfortable. No extra pillows. You open the windows, there is no screen and you have to use the curtain to maintain any privacy. The lift is from an earlier era and very tight. One person and two suitcases maximum. But it is so quiet that you dont know if you have reached your destination. You have to open the door to find out where you are. Internet and the room safe available at extra charge. Do not expect any drinking water to welcome you.
“A lot of stairs but great place to stay”
This was an excellent location to stay with a family. It was within walking distance of the train and open top buses. We had no problems finding pattiseries and restuarants in the surrounding streets. One of the issues we had was with the lift - our room was on the third floor - the lift was tiny - we couldn't even fit the pushchair in so we ended up carrying most things up the stairs. Be careful to close the curtains before using the bathroom. My husband came out of the shower to be faced with a dinner party happening in the opposite building.
“Great staff - small, compact hotel, good location”
We stayed 3 nights in early April'11. The hotel is handy for the Gare Du Nord, and Paris Metro when flying into CDG. You get what you pay for - the hotel is compact [very small rooms], but clean and the staff are very helpful - we turned up a half hour late for breakfast one morning after forgetting that breakfast finished at 10.00 am and the lady who served the breakfast was wonderful, she laid us a table and served us without any problem at all. Also, the chaps who man the desk day and night were also very helpful with nothing too much trouble. The breakfast is basic continental but is cheaper and of equal quality to anything else in the neighbourhood for the price. The hotel is clean, with friendly, helpful staff and is handy for the metro [Pigalle or Anvers] and I would recommend it - rooms are very small though and can become claustrophobic.
