“Should do better at this hotel”
This was our second visit the Disney, but the first in one of the on-site hotels. Generally the hotel foyer and main reception areas were as expected, although even in zero temperatures in the middle of January the public areas were very busy and the restaurants could not cope. On the first night we were told at check-in at 7 PM that we would be unable to get a table until at least 10 PM, which was not ideal after a seven-hour drive with two young children. The room was basic but all forgiveable, apart from the lack of twin beds for the children (this had been specifically requested, a second double was provided), an excruciatingly uncomfortable and noisy second double bed in the room and the blocked drain in the sink. For those with more time, watch out for the quality and be prepared to complain.
“Save more and go to Orlando”
On arrival everything was correct. Tickets for the parks were waiting for us and, as we arrived before 3pm, the room was not ready. We left the luggage and headed for the parks. On our return we were allocated a room which we had requested to be non smoker and quiet...needless to say everything smelled cigarette smoke (bed sheets, carpet, curtains, towels) and there is no such thing as a quiet room. Interestingly, the window lock was broken and missing, so that it felt a bit chilly inside as it was quite windy and it did not help us feel safe either. The following day the hotel managed to improvise a lock. No solution for the poorly maintained property, the wallpaper peeling off, the colonies of bacteria in the bathroom and the furniture falling to pieces. We just wanted a decent place to rest, as we would spend the days in the parks, however if you have been to a Disney accommodation in Orlando you cannot avoid expecting a similar level. The parks are ok, a mini version of Orlando, however most of the staff we interacted with was not welcoming and in some cases rude. Not Disney at all! On one occasion a group of youngsters tried to jump the train queue at Main St. USA station, to which I reacted exerting physical coercion for them to desist. You would hope that the Disney employees would intervene as well, but they just observed, amused. If you can, save for longer and go to Orlando, you will have the time of your life with your children and great value for money.
“Euro Magic for young and old!”
Great location for the Disney parks, right on the lake and very easy to get to in the car from Calais. Breakfast is a buffet affair but wide selection and more than sufficient for our party of 4 adults and 4 kids ranging from 19 months to 10 years old. We were there 3 nights and on last night gave buffet restaurant a try. Under 3 eats free and very wide selection. It was about €26 per person but we made sure we got our monies worth! We've been to the Thomas Cook Explorers Hotel before. Other than the pool (which doesn't have the same kids toys/slides as the Explorers), Sequoia Lodge is far better. The rooms aren't the ritz but they're big, had bath and shower, big flat screen tvs, comfy beds - result! You also have the benefit of 2 magic hours at the Disneyland park where guests of Disney hotels can get into the park and gain acces to a few selected rides (Inc mission space, buzz lightyear orbitron, Peter pan, dumbo) before the park opens to the public Very happy with the Lodge an wouldn't hesitate to go back.
“Would not stay here again”
The service in the hotel was not good at all. It was too busy, and not enough staff to cope. The queue for check-in was way too long, and the fiasco with our room was ridiculous. We seemed to have been downgraded a room, but with no apologies and no offer of compensation. The good thing about the hotel is the restaurants in it (Hunter's Grill and Beaver Creek Tavern). The food was good and plentiful, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Although these also got very busy and unpleasant, and were quite expensive. Beaver Creek was much better than Hunter's Grill, with fewer people and the food was well stocked, whereas Hunter's Grill ran out of ice-creams, for example, which were not refilled while we were there. The location is ok, but is one of the furthest-away Disney hotels. Shuttle buses were pretty full so we walked most of the time, but this could be 15-20 minutes, barging past people in the Disney Village, so was not a pleasant walk. Fitness facilities were ok, but not great. Pool was too full of kids for us to want to go in, and the gym was too hot (no air-conditioning). Only open from 3-10pm, so couldn't even go early in the day to avoid the crowds. Would recommend going during the week when it's a bit quieter, and perhaps staying in a hotel closer to the parks, ie. Disneyland Hotel.
“Will try another one next time!”
This is not like the Grand California in Disney Land, CA. It is more of a holiday inn/best western at its best. The rooms were not well cleaned and we had to call maintenance to fix the drain in the sink upon our arrival. After staying at the Grand California my expectations may have been too high for this hotel. For the amount we paid, I would have expected a better stay.. Internet connectivity was poor and the chord was next to the tv which made it very hard for a computer to hook into. There was no special disney feel to the hotel like at the Grand with the exception of the shampoo bottles had caps shaped like mickey mouse but they broke off the top upon opening.
“Friendly welcoming hotel -Disney's Sequoia Lodge”
If you are wanting to stay at an authentic american styled hotel then Sequoia Lodge is perfect for you and your family. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel rooms are comfortable, easily accessible and clean. The hotel is ten minute walk away from the parks, the walk is open, well lit and signposted.
“very helpfull”
My mum who needs a wheelchair to get about she could not of been treated any better the staff were great with her and very respectfull to her. This hotel is great for disabilites.Only the pool was very cold and we went late at night thinking there would not be many there and all the kids were in the pool, bad idea!
“Budget Hotel”
This hotel was clean but smelt quite bad of smoke, this hotel would be classed as more for couples or families who have a budget to spend.
“Perfectly acceptable”
The hotel was well used but sericeable. We made full use of the pool, which was good fun for the kids - best time to go was early morning before breakfast (less people and made us hungry). All you can eat breakfast was fantastic! Staff always helpful and friendly. A smattering of French helped a little. Great to see a few disney characters wandering around. 10 min walk to disney village and 15 to disney land or disney studios. As as basic family hotel this cannot be faulted.
