Tinto

Tinto (red wine in Spanish) is a wine bar and restaurant from Iron Chef Jose Garces inspired by the culinary-renowned Basque region of Northern Spain and Southern France. At Tinto, Garces presents his modern approach to traditional pintxos (Peen-chos), or Basque tapas, and a deep selection of area’s premier wines and native cocktails. Tinto serves brunch on weekends with breakfast, lunch and dinner the rest of the time, all inspired by the Basque principles of fresh local ingredients and simple, yet refined preparation in a casual setting.

El Jefe

At The Saguaro, El Jefe’s culinary inspiration will be the wonderfully diverse street food of Mexico. Guests can enjoy an extensive list of over 100 tequilas and mescals, available by the glass and also in flights for sampling. El Jefe’s design will bring the classic Western frontier bar so ubiquitous in many of our beloved vintage movies into the modern era featuring a muted color palette and reclaimed, rustic materials. A variety of motorcycle paraphernalia evocative of the Southwest’s legendary roving bands of bikers, Day of the Dead artwork, a back-lit custom menu board and a tequila display will be among the focal points of the space. Elements will also feature an outdoor drink rail, accessed through saloon-style swinging doors, for all-weather cocktails and snacks.

Chef Jose GarcesHe’s one of the country’s most talented young chefs, winner of the Food Network’s Iron Chef America and a James Beard award. His food draws crowds in Philly, Chi-Town, Scottsdale, and now Palm Springs.

Golf

No discussion of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley recreation is complete without mentioning golf. Voted as 2012’s Top North American Golf Destination’; by the Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), the city is considered a premier enclave for the sport and home to more than 30 courses.

LGBT

Palm Springs is a destination for LGBT visitors and culture, and is home to a large gay population. Gay culture is integrated into daily life here, meaning there are attractions for everyone and gay-friendly events are held year round. Palm Springs Pride takes place in November, drawing a diverse crowd. From gay and mixed clubs and bars to the out-of-hand White Party every April, there’s plenty of action if you want it. Arts

Palm Springs is an epicenter of arts and culture in the desert. The Palms Springs Art Museum downtown houses a collection of modern and contemporary art that rivals most big city museums. Its Annenberg Theater hosts a variety of entertainment. The Palm Springs International Film Festival and Shortfest are known for spreading Oscar-buzz and attracting Hollywood stars. Coachella is the epic music and art festival that takes place over two weekends in April in Indio (25 miles away), drawing top-name acts and some 60,000 attendees. If your musical tastes are more Broadway, check out the world famous Palm Spring Follies and their “young” cast. Of course, Palm Springs is heaven for Modernism fans. Look out of for Modernism Week, take an architectural tour of structures by the likes of Neutra, Wexler and Frey, and visit the boutiques along Palm Canyon Drive.

Recreation

The year round climate and neighboring San Jacinto Mountains create incredible outdoor recreation in and around Palm Springs. There at least 125 golf courses, breathtaking scenery and countless hiking trails. Visit the Coachella Valley Hiking Club for trail tips. Experience the world's largest rotating tramcar at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for a journey up the sheer cliffs of Chino Canyon, elevation 8,500 ft (and where you might see snow). The Tram is a gateway to the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, with many trails starting at the top. Afraid of heights? Go off-road and exploring the San Andreas Fault or nearby Joshua Tree National Park by foot, ATV or horseback. Or get your nature fix the easy way and visit Moorten Botanical Gardens, a one-of-a-kind desert arboretum and “The World First Cacterium.”
