“Never go to this hotel or Palermo”

Very ridiculous policies especially for the pool. Director of the hotel very rude and impolite. The city stinks and is very dirty. Do not go to this city. The pool is the only good thing of th hotel and you can access it for a couple hours only. Used for publicity more than anything else.

    “Good in parts”

A "business" hotel not a tourist one. It provides a better service for Business Visitors than tourists. Room fine, roomy and clean. Service generally very good, but one or two staff were actually unhelpful. Pool small but well run and fun after sight-seeing. Location poor. Local busses unpredicatable. Hotel has NO Hotel to town shuttle (although it was advertised in your details). Area around is run down and dirty, and it is a good twenty minutes walk through this type of area into town. Breakfast buffet OK , with a fair range, but never changes. Coffee appalling in a country which provides such good coffee normally. Business guests have personally served, good coffee. Evening meals fairly expensive, particulalry drinks, and quality is not Sicilian, but merely general hotel fare, of averagestandard. Business guests portions noticably larger, and appeared to be of better cuts or materials. Overall not bad, but a three star Italian hotel and not the four stars given. Car parking cramped and occasionally full on return from trips so parking in unsavoury surroundings.

    Area recommendations
For historical sights and markets the old arab quarter, but for shopping the newer area beyond the marina towards the west.Traffic is completely disastrous. Better not to use or hire a car. They are totally erratic, callous, cynical and offensive drivers. I have driven throughout Europe and further afield and never met a more aggressive and dangerous lot. Just one example would be the fact that ordinary pavements will suddenly be used by motorbikes and scooters at full pelt if the traffic snarls up, and it often does! These will be ridden straight at pedestrians at full speed to try to force them to back down or get out of the way. The same behaviour on the roads. Vehicles of all kinds overtake into the opposite lane driving at full speed into the oncoming traffic when blocked at random times. An uncontrolled mess. City said to be dangerous but never found it so, day nor night otherwise. People generally helpful and good humoured out of their cars. samll more sophisticated night life, good entertainment and arts. Food very varied but seafood excellent.

    “Great hotel.... but!”

Hotel is great, with excellent service and excellent food and wines in the restaurant. More than adequate choice of meals on the half-board tariff. Breakfast had a greater selection of hot and cold food than is normal on the continent and all of it was very fresh. Rooms are adequate and reasonably comfortable. Downside - not in a great location, surroundings are drab and 'run-down' - including the beach area, plus it's a half-hour hike to the centre of Palermo. The courtesy bus service to the centre is limited. Hotel is large and caters mainly for conferences, so it is busy during the week. Upside of that is at mealtimes, non-conference guests get almost personal service in a separate area of the dining room.

    Traveller's tip
Palermo is an interesting place to visit, but maybe not to stay. Driving in Palermo is just chaotic and not for the faint-hearted. Just don't do it. Outside the city, traffic flows reasonably freely, so getting around is fine. On reflection, a better option would be to stay elsewhere (eg Cefalu) and visit Palermo by train. From there, both ends of the island and the south coast would be accessible for day trips by car.

    Area:

Palermo, Italy: Sicily’s capital stands on a curved bay at the foot of Monte Pellegrino. It’s a chaotic, ebullient place with masses to see. Puppet theatre, street markets and marzipan fruits are typical Palermo treats. Get your bearings at a major intersection, the Quattro Canti. Don’t miss the superb mosaics in the Cappella Palatina, or Serpotta’s stuccowork in the city churches. The mummified corpses in the Capuchin catacombs are the stuff of nightmares.
