“Elegance and style.”
A Grand hotel in every sense of the words. Parking is not easy so the valet parking was a nice and welcome touch. The welcome was warm and the reception staff were on the ball and were really helpful getting a rental car returned. We had two rooms; one noisy but with views and one quiet with no views, Both rooms were elegant and both matched the splendour of the grand entrance. The breakfast which has rave reviews was not something we could partake of since we had a very early flight to Rome the next day. Overall this hotel is well worthy of a four star rating, well placed for everything you would want to do in Palermo.
“Historic hotel”
The Grand Hotel et des Palmes is a lovely hotel. It has a grand lobby and marble statues and mirrors. It is very well furnished and the restaurant is like a ballroom. You can get a sense of history as it was used for important meetings by politicians and the mafia. Our bedroom was large with a king size bed and lovely egyptian cotton bedding and duvet. There was a Mini bar well stocked but not cheap , but we brought our own water and milk and the fridge was handy. We had our own travelling electric kettle to make tea as most Italian hotels do not provide tea making facilities which we like. The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of town, near shops and restaurants and the main food market. We could walk to the Duomo and Theatre Massimo as well as the Norman Palace. We took the bus 806 to Mondello, a lovely beach resort 20 minutes away. Another day we took a bus to Monreale and saw the most mosaic'd cathedral in Europe, it was amazing. The hotel staff are very nice and speak English. The buffet breakfast was the same every day but there was a good variety, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages and cold items like sliced cheese, ham, yoghurts, tinned fruits and pastries. You order your coffees and teas at the table and its waiter served. All the tables are well laid with tablecloths and silver cutlery and its very clean. We would recommend this hotel if you want to stay in central Palermo!
“Possibly the best hotel in Sicily”
The Grand Hotel Des Palmes is perfectly situated to explore Palermo, and on a main bus route to discover other areas of the island. The staff are very welcoming and helpful; although I speak little Italian, they were more than able to compensate. The hotel and room were of a very high standard, and great quality. The food was lovely, as was the cokctail bar!
“Palermo's finest”
What a fabulous hotel set handily on one of Palermo's main roads, which was usefully near one of the stops of the airport shuttle bus. Beautiful building with grand entrance lobby and dining rooms, bedroom was perfect with a lovely bathroom, immaculately clean. Reception staff very friendly with extremely good English and seemed happy to answer our hundreds of questions with a myriad of information and helpful maps and guidebooks. Breakfast was one of the best we've ever had with delicious bread and meats and fresh pastries and juice. Was extremely sad to leave and can't recommend this hotel highly enough.
“Hotel dulring the winter”
The hotel is well located close to the centre and the port. It has large rooms, and the lobby is very well laid out. The breakfast is particularly good and abundant. Staff is very polite. It rained the days I was there and the hotel provided an umbrella when I had to go out.
“Not as good as last time.”
This was our second stay at the Grand Hotel Et Des Palmes, Palermo. Whilst many things were still of the same excellent standard as the first time, in particular the breakfast, we were disappointed that some things were significantly poorer. The room had certainly not been vacuumed prior to our moving in as the floor was covered by what looked like bits from the previous guests black socks. Our other main gripe was when midway through our stay we had to change rooms due to an apparent problem with the battery on our electronic card lock. Rather than change the battery we were told with a shrug of the shoulders and indifference to move our luggage 40 yards down the corridor without any offer of assistance which caused us great inconvenience. We would recommend this hotel because of its breakfast alone, which by any standards is the best we've found in Italy. It is also excellently located and is beautiful both internally and externally but unfortunately the customer service and room cleanliness on this occasion have let it down.
“ok”
Hotel reception was excelent. Staff in the breakfast room was not good. always running out of food, as they are not observent, our room was clean but dark. looked directly onto a bick wall. The area was perfect. If they gave it a little face lift it would help. wi fi is also to expensive in a 4 star hotel

Area:
Palermo, Italy: Sicilys capital stands on a curved bay at the foot of Monte Pellegrino. Its a chaotic, ebullient place with masses to see. Puppet theatre, street markets and marzipan fruits are typical Palermo treats. Get your bearings at a major intersection, the Quattro Canti. Dont miss the superb mosaics in the Cappella Palatina, or Serpottas stuccowork in the city churches. The mummified corpses in the Capuchin catacombs are the stuff of nightmares.
