“Palermo delight”

Date of visit - December 2011 Return visit & we were greeted like royalty. Very friendly and professional staff act as if they enjoy their work and enjoy caring for their guests. Very proactive & e-mail responsive reception staff arranged a fixed price cab meet - most convenient. Reception paid off cab who had no change for us, and put it on the bill. Free LAN internet connection - reception supplied the cable. Housekeeping done whilst we were absent throughout the week and we're not morning people. Delicious breakfast on roof on warm winter's day a delight. Bus stop outside, bus tickets (from tabacchi) bought opposite. Stazione Centrale 5mins walk. Shops, restaurants and night life (if younger than we are) on doorstep. Spacious room and large bathroom with a big shower cubicle. No need to trip over our two checked suitcases lots of space for them. Highly recommend & definitely will return. (Anne & Roger S)

Area recommendations
Via Roma, Via Maqueda > Via RS > Via Della Liberta > Giardino Inglese for shops. Bar Di Martino Drinks & Brunch off Della Liberata a must. Football on big screen outdoors, fabulous beef pannine, Mohita cocktails(Better than Havana), beer, chips, veggy stuff, salads etc - v.g value. Relaxed Quick & welcoming service - U can ask for english menu. Bus trip to Monreale to see stunning mosaic church interior a must for those familiar with the bible stories. Brits can look for Thomas Becket in same row as Mary Magdelene! Day trip to Cefalu by train - easy, cheap and recommended. Have a beer in the fish market for 1.50. Very unthreatening, welcoming & relaxed atmosphere all over town. Warmest winter avg city in Europe - check the stats. Luv it. (Anne & Roger S Dec 2011)

“noisy mornings”

My room was cramped and overlooked a main street so traffic woke me each morning at 6 am.The first day there was muesli for breakfast [bonus point] the second day it had already run out [bonus point lost]. Fifth floor hotel with a terrace for breakfast and evening drinks and a view of countless ecclesiastical domes. Personable personnel produce a written daily roundup of Whats On.

“Excellent hotel, wonderful staff, beautiful terrace.”

The staff were amazing. The staff behind reception could not have been more helpful. Also, the staff serving breakfast were very warm. It was the best part of my stay in Palermo. I would warn guests visiting Palermo, that there is a man posing as an American tourist who says he had his bag stolen, asking for money for a train fare. He is very convincing but this is a scam.

“Cant beat that rooftop view!”

What more can we say about the rooftop view that hasn't already been said. We spent as much time up there as we could and fell in love with Palermo from on high. Great location, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Super super value!

“Great location”

Lovely view from the 6th floor breakfast room, close to all central sights. Room clean and functional.. Will return.

Area recommendations
Streets to the rear of the hotel for very lively bar/ nightlife activity. Make sure you see the colourful but basic street markets at nearby ballaro and vucciria. See whether you can stomach the spleen sandwiches!

“A true gem in the heart of old Palermo”

We spent 6 nights at this hotel from Oct.9 through Oct 14,2011. Fantastic location within walking distance of all the major sights in the old section of Palermo as well as the train station and the three street markets in the city. Hotel is on Via Roma which is a very busy street with shopping and plenty of local places to eat but the rooms facing this street are sound proofed which significantly cuts down the street noise. The hotel staff is extremely helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations ,train schedules and setting up taxi pickup at the airport. There is a beautiful terrace on the top floor for breakfast and evening drinks which looks over the old section of Palermo. Drink prices in the evening are very reasonable and breakfast selections are plentiful and delicious. WiFi was free and worked fairly well. Hotel has an international clientel and we would definitely stay there again. Local bus stop almost right outside hotel for getting to newer areas of the city which might be too distant for someone to walk.

Area recommendations
We liked the old section of Palermo since you can walk to most of the important historical sites. It can be a little intimidating since some streets are narrow and dark and some areas are in disrepair but we never felt threatened even when waliking at night to locate recommended places to eat. Palermo is a food lover's delight not only for its pastries but also for cuisine influenced by the French, the Arabs and Greeks. We had the best couscous I have ever eaten in a small trattoria-pastry shop right on Via Roma not far from our hotel. You can always find inexpensive street food such as arancini or pannini to keep your trip expenses down especially if you do as the locals do and eat as you walk or take away to your hotel.

“Really helpful staff and amazing view, lovely breakfast”

The staff in this hotel are so friendly and helpful, helping us finding a parking space when we arrived as we didnt reserve a parking space due to change of schedule. The roof top view is amazing and the old fasioned lift is also impressive! Would love to go back!

“Amazing roof top terrace view”

Hotel is small but friendly. The breakfast is served on a roof top terrace with amazing view, you can also have your evening drink there. They have an amazing wine selection and you will get a comlimentary snack with your drink. The room is comfortable size and the bathroom also. It's nice and clean. Hotel is in the centre so you have everithing within walking distance. Our room was facing the yard, so there was no breze, we kept the air con on. It's a bit noisy, but bearable. I would stay again.

“Excellent staff & great terrace bar”

The rooftop terrace bar was a wonderful place to end the day: beautiful view of the city and above the heat of street below. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and room was clean and tasteful. Great breakfast buffet, too! The local neighborhood on the Via Roma is well lighted and safe at night.

Area:

Palermo, Italy: Sicily’s capital stands on a curved bay at the foot of Monte Pellegrino. It’s a chaotic, ebullient place with masses to see. Puppet theatre, street markets and marzipan fruits are typical Palermo treats. Get your bearings at a major intersection, the Quattro Canti. Don’t miss the superb mosaics in the Cappella Palatina, or Serpotta’s stuccowork in the city churches. The mummified corpses in the Capuchin catacombs are the stuff of nightmares.
