This is a good stop-off point especially for travellers arriving at Santander on the ferry, which now docks at 6pm. It takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hours drive from Santander, virtually all on the A67 motorway, so it is a good place to break the journey to Portugal or south-western Spain. We found the hotel very good value, clean & comfortable, friendly reception staff( & English speaking), & decent good-value food. It's not the easiest place to find, but is right next to a petrol station & roundabout on the outskirts of Venta de Banos.

"Will be back to visit my Brother in Palencia...YEAH...."
I Had a Wonderful time in Palencia. I went to visit my little brother who had just moved to the area. It is a beautiful place, with a lot of History. The people are friendly.
Palencia is different from other areas in Spain I've visited in the past because it isn't very touristy it is very Spanish!!!! People only speak spanish there, hardly any english and I loved that about Palencia. I felt like I had visited the " Real Spain " I felt more of the Spanish Culture this time.
Getting to Palencia from the nearest airport is a bit of a JOURNEY, but it was worth it.
From Valladolid I took a bus from the aiport to the main train station, this bus runs once every 90 minutes so be prepared to wait!
Then I took a train to Palencia, but check the train times because you might have to wait here again for an hour or so.
Tip: At the airpot, bus station and train staion they do not speak english, so brush up on your spanish..... Learn how to ask for tickets!
The Renfe trains are very nice and the journey was about 30 minutes. It's just the waiting for buses and trains that can be time consuming.
I will visit Palencia again, but will stay a little longer next time. It is a very relaxing place to visit.

Please note we had filtered our hotel search to 'pet friendly' and were horrified when we arrived to see a 'no dogs allowed' sign in the main entrance. The staff kindly let us stay with our small dog but this is not an appropriate location if travelling with a pet.
