It was our 20th wedding anniversary and it was epic. The welcome was so warm and the staff took care of our every need. They made our anniversary so special with rose petals on our table for dinner and on our return to our room we found a bottle of champagne and rose petals all over our suite. I would highly recommend this luxury hotel.

Very old but well kept estate with beautiful views and grounds. Staff are very friendly. Only gripe was that our room had 2 single beds that you could not really push together. Did not get to dine in restaurant as they were closed, but they booked us a wonderful dinner at Laborie. Would love to stay a bit longer next time.
Unfortunately I cannot review the hotel itself because when we arrived there was a mix up with the booking and we ended up not staying there. We booked for a manor suite which is a room inside the main building but upon arrival this had been changed to a spa suite which are buildings remote to the hotel and from other reviews (and even on the admission of the staff) are much lesser quality.
The whole situation was a big mess as the hotel was full by the time we arrived.
That said the staff went out of their way and re-accommodated us in a beautiful hotel nearby (of a higher rating than this one) at their cost. In addition the group manager was by coincidence staying at the hotel himself and he made a point of coming and personally apologising and spending valuable and appreciated time talking to us.
The staff and management turned a real negative into a real positive.. In life and business things do go wrong but it's how we put them right that really counts. In this respect I could not have asked for more..
In conclusion I think with staff and management of this calibre this will be a great hotel and I would certainly give it another try.. Only word of advice is call ahead and make sure the room you are allocated is the one you have booked because apparently the central reservation system is where the error lies.

I spent a wonderful 24 hours at Babylonstoren and despite it being off season, I thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the environment, the amazing gardens, the spacious and well designed room, the friendly staff and the delicious food. Highly recommended.
Because we were two adults traveling with our adult daughter our hotel choices were very limited. The two-bedroom cottage was perfect for us all because it really had two bedrooms in addition to the common kitchen and sitting room area. There were a number of wineries very close but if we were to do it again we would start our day earlier, stay 2 nights and plan on having a braai at the cttage. As it was, we were unprepared to fully use the cottage and ate a nice supper in Stellenbosch and a breakfast at the Pot Belly on the way to the N1, both delightful. It is also worth noting that the cottages are bordered by an orchard and vineyard, quiet, safe and rural.

An hour from Cape Town, the scenic town of Paarl takes its name from a granite outcrop with three gigantic rocks, known as Pearl Mountain or Paarl Rock. Famous for being the place where the Afrikaans language has its foundations, it is also the former headquarters of the South African wine industry, and its many attractions include the Paarl wine route and excellent local cuisine.
