“Cold Rooms”
heating not turned on until 6pm and turned off at midnight. They did give you a small fan heater if you asked, but this to me is poor, the heating should be something you control, not the hotel.
“Not Impressed”
Our rooms were in the coach house - as far as you could be from entrance to hotel and still be in the hotel! Are these the rooms reserved for Expedia Special price guests?! Radiators did not work so we were given a hot air heater - not adequate. Loo did not flush properly and room service did not do a good job. All the waiters and receptionist were very helpful. Hotel just needed some maintenance done. There's old and charmimg and there's just old!
“Nice hotel, cold rooms though”
Nice hotel, excellent location, mostly friendly staff, good value bar meals in nice relaxing sourroundings but let down a bit by the cold rooms. Excellent buffet breakfast. We did have a problem with lack of heating in the rooms. We got the impression that the ground floor room (no 20) hadn't been expected to be used, there had been a water leak in the bathroom & it smelt damp & was very cold, We had to ask several times to get the heating put on.
“Good for the money”
Because city hotels are so expensive, we chose to stay in the countryside. This is a decent hotel for the money. Easy drive [about 15 minutes] to Blenheim and the Park and Ride to Oxford [about 30 minutes]. There was no shower and no air conditioning in our room. Wi-fi access was available only in their sitting room, but it is comfortable and private. There was no top sheet on the bed [the same as in many hotels], but we were given one promptly when it was requested. Car park is very cramped. Staff friendly and helpful. On site restaurant good.
“Ideal for quiet break”
As it was a surprise trip to celebrate my wife's birthday I asked the hotel to arrange for flowers and champagne to be in the room. This was done to a high standard. I had booked a four poster room which was excellent and had a good sitting area. There was a good choice for breakfast, the restaurant was closed in the evening, but bar meals were available. There are lots of places to eat in town. It's well placed for Oxford (20 m) and Stratford (20 m) and for touring the Cotswold villages.
“An old coaching in wth Character and Charm. Superb standard of food in the Hotel bar.”
Welcomed cheerily by the Hotel Manager. Nice comfortable room, warm and clean. Nice fluffy towles warm towles. A little dated but the Hotel does date back to the 1400's so to be expected. Good standrad of food and prices in the Hotel Bar. Generous portions, good service and all done with a smile. Nice indoor pool, very clean and of good standard. Superb cooked breakfast, good buffet choice also and again, all done with a smile. Lovely open roaring fires which was very welcoming. Efficient check-out and were welcomed to come back.
“reasonable base hotel for the Cotswolds”
Nice hotel in a good location. The staff were very helpful but the hotel itself is a little tired. The first family room we were given had a tiny sofa bed with a big wooden bar across the base. We have never complained about a room before, but the bed was just too uncomfortable to sleep in. A trip down to reception soon sorted out the problem and we were moved to a room with a decent sofa bed. The lady in reception couldn't have been more helpful. Lovely evening meal in the restaurant with a reasonable wine list and a good breakfast. Car parking but tiny spaces.
“Great place to stay!”
Really enjoyed this place. Great location - handy to all places to visit in the Cotswolds - we did have a rental car. Very comfortable. Nice breakfast. Hotel bar had affordable meals & a nice atmosphere. Staff were helpful & friendly. Very picturesque little town that had everything we needed.
“Good Location”
This is a good location for seeing the Cotswolds. Good value for money although the four-poster bed was a little small! Breakfast was very nice. All of the hotel staff were polite and helpful. Overall we were happy with the experience and would definitely recommend this hotel.
“Great Hotel in the middle of the Cotswolds”
The Hotel was busy and the staff were very attentive. Food at the bar was very good and reasonably priced, food in the restaurant was expensive.
