Awesome Staff and view

Posted 13-Oct-2014
Pros: The location
Location: Beach right behind it. Some shops up the road from it and across from it.
The room was spotless and was a nice reprieve from the heat during the day. The staff were friendly and courteous and loved the way the outside was set up as you could visit with neighbors if you wished too. Will definitely be telling friends about this place.

Bugs!

Posted 12-Oct-2014
My boyfriend and I used to love Owens but not anymore! The last time he stayed Oct 3-5, 2014 for a fishing trip with his brother they had bugs in their room! Now I have to find another place to stay every time we go to OBX. We had stayed there 5 times just this season. Very disappointed!!

Just don't !!!!!!

Pros: I honestly cannot think of a single thing.
Cons: Renovation for starters. Carpeting, bedding (the mattress was awful), the bathroom are all in need of refreshing/replacement. Better locks.
Location: The location was o.k.. across the road from Tanger Outlet and other places to shop.
I ended up staying only one night of the two I originally scheduled. Had indescribably loud/crazy/drunk?/high? neighbors that were slamming their door, shouting, cursing, and wailing all night long. I cannot blame these people's behavior specifically on the management of this motel, so I will restrict my further comments on the room itself. Small room, tiny bathroom. No electrical outlet in the bathroom. I was left with a roll of toilet paper with maybe 20 sheets on it and no spare roll. The office is closed from 9:00pm-9:00am so no help there. There is no telephone in the room. The only lock on the door is what is on the door knob, no security chain (there apparently had been one, but it had been removed), no slide lock, no dead bolt. So pretty flimsy security in my opinion. The carpet is old, nasty and should be replaced. The one spare blanket in the closet would not be fit for a dog, much less a person. I wasn't expecting the Hilton, I had read the reviews of this motel prior to booking... but I guess the reality of the place (in addition to my next door neighbors) just sent me over the top. I was actually afraid for my safety.

Request upgrade room with beach view, worth money.

Pros: On BEACH!
Location: Owen's restaurant, across street, should offer discount for staying in hotel. Pricy but good food, white linen tablecloths and fancy menu items. Yum!
Quick two night visit, totally wanted to stay longer. Has kitchen area so very convenient for those with dietary needs _ gluten free cooking.

An escape to the outer banks

Posted 14-Aug-2014
Pros: Owens is walking distance from most everything and a short 5-10 minute drive to favorite sites such as Roanoke, Jockey's Ridge, Jimmy's Seafood Buffet
Cons: drains in room 486 were stopped up in sink/ tub (maintenance said it's from hair and sunblock buildup). We moved to 489. Better space and drains!
My husband and I planned a last minute escape to the outer banks and were at a loss for where to stay. We chose Owen's since it was the most affordable place right on the beach. The staff at Owen's was awesome and willing to work with us to extend our stay. If you are looking for fancy, this isn't it, but our room was clean, had 2 queen beds, air worked great, and the mini fridge, microwave, table for two area was great. We stayed in room 486 in the courtyard which is right across the road from the beach (totally worth paying almost $100 less per night) We didn't mind not having an ocean view from our room since we weren't in the room much! The location is PERFECT. Less than a 2 minute walk from great food, Jeanettes Pier, and Calhoons mini-market where we bought fishing gear, food, cheap coolers...basically everything we needed.

Our stay. Was very good over all . The only problem we had was that the little stall the commode was in was too small.
