Adequate hotel, great location on the beach

Posted 26-May-2015
Pros: It's location and pet friendly accomodations
Cons: Hotel staff and rooms
Location: The hotel is nicely situated on the Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills border, close to restaurants and attractions.
There was nothing great about this hotel, and the staff was less than kind. Although, it is difficult to beat the location on the beach, and the fact that they are pet friendly.

Hotel is old!

Posted 23-May-2015
Hotel needs updating terribly. Tiny bathroom and the fan stayed on noisily while the light is on. Location is really great and beautiful beach. We got a room that had a view of the maintenance area instead of the ocean view we asked for. We had no patio door to open and get ocean air. We will not return, but will do a beachfront rental house next year. Same price for better accommodation.

Great location and the staff at breakfast great.

Posted 21-May-2015
Pros: Location, Beach, reasonable price.
Cons: New curtains for the room we had as they didn't come down all the way to the bottom of the window. Have a internet & computer available.
Location: Great Sand Beach to walk & swim. Light House exploring. The Boardwalk in DUCK. Several State Parks. A Great place for Happy Hour is Hurricane Mo's.
So many places to explore. The Beach was a delight and the daily maid service was very good at tiding up the room. Good selection at breakfast and the staff was very friendly.

mis-advertised

Posted 16-May-2015
Pros: Staff was very pleasant and the property itself was visually pleasing. property was right on ocean.
Cons: cleaning of rooms and grounds
Location: beach right off main deck. plenty or shops and dining nearby.
Our room looked at a sand dune... not a bad room, but I was under the impression that I was getting an ocean view room when I booked online because the photo shown was of an ocean view deck - it did not say pool view or dune view. The front desk offered me a room with a view for an upcharge of $50.00+ per night. I checked in after 7:00pm and the carpets were still wet from a cleaning earlier in the day. While I was happy to hear that they were cleaned, I only found out when I called the call front desk to ask if it was due to storm that had just come through (tropical storm Ana had been passed thru earlier that day and the day before). The tub did not drain - had to call front desk to have it taken care of (simple plunging cleared the drain). I felt like this is something that house cleaning should have caught when they cleaned the tub after the previous guests. The deck was covered in cigarette butts in this non-smoking building. No screen door on the slider so door could be open without bugs coming in. The deck held no divider so the children in one of the neighboring rooms were in front of our room more often than we liked. Hallway reeked of cigarette smoke (again - this was a non-smoking building). .

OK for a night at a reasonable price.

Posted 13-May-2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Make sure desk clerks have people skills and replace worn out mattresses in rooms you are trying to rent.
Location: Close to many good places to eat and/or shop.
Be careful of what room you are given. The first room was behind the office and the bed squeaked so bad you couldn't touch it let alone sit on it without loud squeaking. It also was next to the maintenance and cleaning room with employees coming and going and all parking in front of it was handicap. The clerk was minimally helpful and only moved us when pressed. Our eventual room was clean and OK for an older hotel that needs some work. I feel they concentrate on the high priced ocean front rooms which I understand but if they want one night people to come back for more nights they need to work on customer service and replace defective mattresses. The clerk in the morning when I checked out was wearing so many hats she couldn't get off the phone long enough to even smile.

Basic necessities with an awesome view!

Posted 04-May-2015
Pros: Friendly helpful staff
Cons: updating of rooms but I think they are doing that by the looks of some of the empty rooms
Location: Duck Donuts are a must visit. Wright Brothers' museum. NC Aquarium
Since we knew we were not going to be in our room most of the time, cost was the driving factor. Actually, for the price there were amenities that were not expected. Continental breakfast had more offerings than I would have expected. The room was basic and could use some updating but that is just being nit picky. It looked as if updating was happening in other rooms. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and welcoming.

Decent oceanfront hotel.

Booked a room for the weekend, check-in was easy and the staff were courteous and helpful. Breakfast was decent and the staff member there was very friendly. Can't beat the ocean front location. Beds were a bit stiff, but comfortable enough. Housekeeping was very diligent and our room was always kept clean and stocked.

Great location near Harris Teeter..

Posted 21-Apr-2015
Location: The black Pelican and the Blue moon cafe actually serve local seafood, the two best restaurants about 10 minutes away according to many locals.
From our experience, the hotel has a very pleasant staff, I do believe the owners are trying to make customer service number one to make up for what this place lacks. The rooms on the separate building with 4 floors has rooms with a view of the ocean and floor 3 and 4 are the best (make a request before you get there. There are also rooms that are right on the beach with a floor above, but I believe those are more expensive ( either way, I can't imagine anyone writing a poor review staying in one of those rooms as you literally walk out the sliding glass door onto the beach). It may be like a motel 6 or something of that level, but with the view, staff, and clean room.....the price was right.
