“Good deal for an expensive city”

Lovely hotel, good location (5 minute walk to National Theater subway stop, 15 minute walk to Central Station), friendly service, two free internet terminals in the reception, fabulous breakfast buffet.

“Great hotel for the price”

Conveniently located near the royal palace and downtown area. Hotel staff were wonderful, nice breakfast and clean rooms. What a nice place to stay for an affordable room rate. Definitely recommend this hotel.

“Great Choice for Pre-Cruise Vacation”

Great Choice for Pre-Cruise We picked this hotel for a pre-cruise stay and couldn't have been happier. It was easy to get to from the airport. We just took the bus outside of arrivals and it dropped us off right around the corner from the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was very substantial. We would stay there again. Thanks

Area recommendations

We visited the sculptures at Frogner Park, Viking Ship Museum, Norwegian Folk museum, National gallery, Homenkollen Ski Jump and the Nobel Peace Center. We bought the Oslo Pass which was great bargain as we used all public transportation. A favorite stop was a trip to the top of Oslo to the Frognerseteren Hovedrestaurant where we had a piece of their famous apple cake and a fabulous view of Oslo.

“Comfortable, bright, spacious and clean room in a convenient location”

Well priced, bright, contemporary furnished room with free and resonably fast internet, nice breakfast and a good location within 5 min walk to major sights and one block from the airport bus stop. Would stay there again...

“outside noise, small rooms, but good food”

The hotel rooms were very small. I've travelled a lot, all over Europe and Asia, so that's saying something. The other issue was noise...from outside the hotel. We were on the sixth floor, but the tram ran outside every few minutes until after midnight. The third night (a Sunday), techno music started around 0100 and ran until after 0400, again from outside. It was all bass so I couldn't determine the location. The staff was friendly and helpful with directions and advise. They have a baggage room you can store in after checkout, handy when your flight is much later. The included breakfast was good and ranged from standard English fare to continental and Norwegian. Also cost saving, considering the expense of everything in Oslo.

“Good value for money!”

“Not too bad, bring earplugs if you aren't used to cities”

This was about 30 minutes walk from the main Oslo train station, but 10 minutes from the closer National Theatre Station. Noisy rooms on the tram side of the building, first night was noisy, and ear plugs helped, I had come from a very quiet part of Norway before coming there. Future nights I got used to the trams. You could even feel the bed shaking when one goes past (every 10 mins) - and this was on the 6th floor. Hotel was doing a 3 for 2 nights deal, so was cheapest option. Neighbourhood is good, close to museums, trains and trams. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice. Restaurant / Cafe was of a good standard, nothing fancy though. Free wifi in room was fast and reliable. Room was comfortable and clean, although the bathroom could do with a fresh lick of pain. Staff were welcoming, accommodating and helpful.

“Good location”

The hotel is ideally located for the tourist, being close to the Royal Palace, the National Theatre transport interchange, shops and central museums. It is a short walk from the fjord and walkable to the central station. We stayed on the 3rd floor in a room facing the rear of the hotel. The room was quiet, warm, clean and very welcome after the cold outside. Indeed the underfloor heating in the shower room was particularly enjoyable! There is plenty of choice at breakfast, ranging from fresh waffles, to salmon and scrambled egg, a cooked breakfast or fruit, yogurt, cereals, bread, cheese, cold meat and so on. There is a free coffee machine in the lobby which helps to keep you warm when you go outside. The staff were polite and helpful, and the hotel was very clean.

Outdoors or beach

Take the metro route 1 (line 1B until Dec 2010 (a bus replacement service)) to the end of the line. It will take about 30mins, and you end up high above Oslo near a forest. In winter you can go cross country skiiing in the forest, or hire a sledge. There are also plenty of footpaths to explore. The area and view are super.

Other

Thon Europa is next to a Radisson hotel. The Radisson has a bar on the top floor that has a wonderful view over Oslo. Just go into the hotel and take the lift to the top floor. It is not cheap, but well worth a visit.

“Good staff, good service, good deal”

Overall, the hotel was very good. The staff was very courteous and was very nice. They spoke excellent English. The room was in decent size, but the bed was very small in American standard. But it was comparable to other European hotels. The Breakfast was EXCELLENT - many choice, good salmon, cod, etc., nice selection of bread, hot dishes and cold dishes....for the money we paid, it was worth it. The hotel is always located in a nice location next to the Oslo University - walking distance to subway and the pier.
