“Good hotel; perfect central location.”

This hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Oslo. A 10 minute walk to the airport express train and close to the watefront area. Travellers can be confident in reserving this hotel. Front desk staff were helpful. Breakfast was fairly standard but adequate. Rooms are of a high standard.

“Thon Hotel Cecil”

We found Thon Hotel Cecil to be almost ideally located. We were able to walk from the train station in twenty minutes trundling our suitcases behind us. Unfortunately, we had not bought an OSLO Pass at that stage otherwise if it had been raining we could have taken a tram. The harbour front was only some eight minutes walk and many Museums including the Royal Palace in easy walking distance - my wife and I are both in our late seventies. Regarding the internals of the Hotel, it was satisfying to know that the lifts could only be operated using the electronic key card for your room. The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of food available including fresh fruit. All the staff were pleasant and courteous. Three small negatives - there were no draws in the room, nor a safe, and we couldn't find a List for the items in the MINI-Bar!!!

Area recommendations
The harbour area for the interest, the Museum area in Bygdoy for the wealth of information, the north-west area of thecity including the Oslo City Museum, the Frogner Statue Park, the Ski-Jump at Holmenkollen, and to the east, the Opera House. Naturally, the National Gallery with the Munch paintings but also many other Norwegian artists. If you can manage it, the Opera on the little island of Oscarborg is fantastic - we left Oslo at 16.30 sailing down the Fjiord for approximately 90 minutes then having a light snack on the island, before the performance. The journey back around 23.30 with refreshments on the boat completed the evening's enjoyment.

“Excellent except perhaps with small children”

An excellent place to stay for the location, condition, cleanliness, and buffet breakfast. We were there over a weekend with our toddler, for which the small room and sharp modern edges were not really suitable. Also, we were given two twin beds (that it was not possible to push together) and a toilet for a mobility-impaired person (very large, while the bedroom was very small), although we were a family of three. Still, a couple or single person traveling this hotel could be perfect.

Area recommendations
Plaza in front of Stortinget (for the atmosphere), Aker Brygge (for the harbor views), Kristiania torvet (lovely old town setting), Karl Johansgate (shopping and walking), Akershus festningen (grassy open space and historic fort), Raadhuset (for the art on the outer walls)

“Excellent Hotel!”

This hotel lived up to expectations in every possible way. The room was perfect, the bed comfortable, the bathroom facilities clean and functioning and the breakfast plentiful and delicious everyday. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and polite. The hotel's location was perfect. I only ever needed public transport once, the public ferry to get to the museums at Bygdoy. Otherwise I walked everywhere because the hotel is so centrally located. Would definitely stay here again myself and recommend this hotel to friends and family.

“Excellent hotel”

I was very impressed with every aspect of this hotel. The breakfast was excellent, the staff was very friendly, the room comfortable and very clean. The location was just about perfect, only a 15 minute walk to the train station and even closer to everything else you would want to see except maybe the Munch Museum which was about a 30 minute walk. I don't know what else you would want in a hotel.

“Highly reccommended”

I was very impressed with Hotel Cecil. It is very conveniently located, in easy walking distance from both the city centre and the harbour areas. Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the self service breakfast was of high quality. (My only reservation was that the breakfast is not available on Sundays until 8am. This is rather late if you want to make an early start or have to get a morning flight.)

Area recommendations
Bar and restaurant prices are generally extremely high in Oslo but self-service cafe Kaffistova in Rosenkrantz gate is more reasonable, with nice food.

“Definately will go back”

Staff very friendly, helpful and informative. Very comfortable room and excellent breakfast. Well located, and central for everything.

Area recommendations
Main city area provides great access to all other areas via bus/tram/train, with plenty of things to do and see. Great restuarants parks and shopping.

“Wow!”

Really nice hotel, with nice and clean rooms. The personnel always made sure to greet us every time we either entered of left the hotel. The breakfast was really nice; lots of variety, delicious and, again the workers in the breakfast room were really friendly. The location is great, a few minutes away from the city hall and the port. We couldn't have wished for a better hotel right in the heart of Oslo. We highly recommend this hotel.

“Great hotel at a good price”

This is a great hotel and we used it as our home base for a Scandinavian trip. I was glad we did. The breakfasts were excellent, and one day we had to leave before breakfast was served and they had a breakfast packed for us. The hotel we well cared for and it was very quiet and restful. We had the breakfast one day that we did not stay the night at the hotel and this was a lifesaver and was reasonably priced. The rooms were not always completely cleaned, but they were clean when we got there and everything was nearly perfect. I'd definitely recommend staying at this hotel if you can get a decent price for it.
