“Grand Hotel Oslo - Fantastic hotel, can't wait to go back”
Fabulous hotel, friendly staff, great location, delicious breakfasts - I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. 5 star all the way.
“Not perfect, but not bad”
This is indeed a grand hotel, in style and price. Unfortunately the first room they put us in was not up to par (not clean, view of hotel dumpsters, broken fixtures, and so on) and they could not move us until the second day of a seven night stay. The second room was much better, slightly more spacious, clean, and everything worked as it should. The hotel was undergoing renovation and perhaps the first room was one that had not yet been renovated. Nevertheless, it was not in a condition befitting the quality of the hotel, or the price. Service otherwise was good. The buffet breakfast was excellent. The location can't be beat, it's truly in the heart of Oslo. All things considered I'd stay there again.
“An old master in a great location”
Lovely old hotel where Ibsen dined. Located in the heart of things in Oslo and easy walking distance to just about everything. We had a standard room which wasn't luxurious but reasonable in this expensive city and it was nice to be surrounded by the heart of Oslo and the history. Great breakfast!
“older hotel which could use some attention to details”
This is a nice older hotel that could use some updating and attention to details with respect to cleanliness and maintenance. Also the help could have been a little friendlier.
“Noisy Weekends”
I was in the hotel on a conference trip for 6 nights. The weekends are extremely noisy, very difficult to work next day. The hotel needs to work on better noise reduction externally and internally. The Spa was very good. Given Oslo prices it is a decent value.
“Not Impressed”
What I was most disappointed is the service quality of waitresses of the restaurant (Grand Cafe). They were not polite, not friendly and not kind.
“Grand DameGem in the Heart of Oslo”
Open since 1876. Great location. Tip-top shape. Excellent restaurants. Take the Flybus or train from the airport. The SAS Flybus stops one block behind the hotel.
“The hotel in Oslo”
Excellent hotel in the best possible location in Oslo; can be a little expensive; would have preferred a rate without breakfast
“Grand lady, with a touch of class”
The hotel is well located. It is about ten minutes walk from the railway station; five minutes walk from the City Hall, wharves for ferries, and the historic fortress/palace; and two minutes walk from tram and Metro stops. It is located on the city's main pedestrian-only street which is great for people watching, and has many cafes and restaurants. Further, the hotel in located opposite a large park with a large open air pub/cafe, At weekends markets are assembled next to the park. The hotel is adjacent to Parliament house, and only a few hundred metres from the Royal Palace at the end of the street (the palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens which are accesible to the public). Our room was very large, but with no view. The hotel needs some renovations. For example, guests need to use several steps to access the main lifts, and many have to use more steps to access rooms. Breakfast was excellent, with five star service, and reception staff were very helpful. The hotel was not too expensive for budget travellers looking to have a fling in a classy hotel (my wife certainly enjoyed the ambiance, and I enjoyed the pool). However, for those watching their budget I would recommend the Rica Victoria, from the same stable, which is located close by.
“Very satisfied”
We had a very good rate with Expedia for a superior room. Our room was outstanding, high ceiling with very large sitting area. We travelled with our 13yo teen, and they added foldable bed. No view which added to privacy and tranquility. The Grand Cafe is a great place with historical mentions where a great breakfast is served. Highly recommend it.
