“Stylish hotel and perfect location”
The Grims Grenka is a very stylish boutique hotel - our room a cool mix of glass, mirror and wood, though much of this works to conceal the smallness, and the bathroom being a glass cube affords little privacy. However the bar and lbby areas are huge, with free 24 hour access to the internet and a printer, fantasically useful for printing boarding passes. The staff are all young, very friendly (as most Norwegians) and the breakfast - a huge buffet affair with hot and cold food, was freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. Location wise the hotel is right next door to the wonderful Architecture Museum, the Akershus Fort and Aker Brygge, for restaurants and ferries to islands. Parts of the room could have done with a bit of dusting and repainting but these are just quibbles, the Grims Grenka remains a very reasonable designer hotel.
“5 Star... Are you sure???”
I arrived at the hotel on friday evening to find out the Restaurant was shut that night and I was told the same on Monday evening when I got back to hotel after a long days work. I did not have hot water for the first 2 nights nights until they eventually moved me into another room. The rooms seem a bit tired for a hotel built in 2008 but the bathroom are nice (apart from not having hot water). The breakfast was ok but certainly nothing to write home about. Would I recommend this hotel... NEVER!
“Got old quick”
Our room had paint falling off the windows and broken mirrors. The place is understaffed, and the irony of it having cardboard cutout bellhops and maids in the reception seemed lost. On the plus side our bed was ridiculously comfortable and the few staff members were very nice and helpful. The location is pretty good and less trafficked by hookers than expected. Our reason for not wanting to return is the knowledge of what other hotels we can get for the same price.
“Hotel 'out of action'!”
Oh dear Upon arrival found out that the bar is closed...as is the restaurant....as is the roof top lounge!! The hotel is undergoing renervation !! Room fine though, apart from the shower floods the whole bathroom floor as its a walk-in (a case of designer looks over praticality) How this can still be given 5*? SHOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED WHEN BOOKING! Only saw one member of staff in two days (the receptionist) - who was excellent - felt sorry that she had to run the whole place by herself.
“dark, loud, overdesigned”
Unpleasant would be the word I would use. In gorgeous Oslo, we entered a cave. The staff tried to be helpful, but they were understaffed. All the boutique hotels I have stayed at have a quirky atmosphere, but this felt desperate and cheap. And very black.
“Good location for tourism; in need of some upgrades for 5 star rating”
Hotel Grims Grenka is well situated; the rooms are funky and modern, and the beds are very comfortable, however, the rooms are relatively small and the extra touches that you would expect from a 5 star hotel aren't necessarily on offer. When the heating system went haywire in our original room, we were downgraded (not upgraded!) to a much smaller room with a doorless shower that sprayed water aeverywhere; no bellman was available to help with our luggage, and there was no offer of a cart. When we were moved it was mentioned that "yes, sometimes that room is like that", which indicated that they have known about the problem for some time, yet continue to rent out the room - hoping, I imagine, for either tropical heat lovers or people who won't complain. The less expensive rooms face the atrium with no outside window. It can be noisy when the lobby is busy - opt for the more expensive rooms if you are sensitive to noise. The rooftop deck is funky, but the bar wasn't open in the afternoon (when a cold drink on a sunny day would have been perfect) and the furniture and finishes are faded from the elements and in need of a facelift. Staff and Manager are friendly and helpful, however their premises let them down somewhat. Recommended, but with some reservations.
“A boutique hotel that needs work”
Stayed at the Grims Grenka June 17th-21st, 2008. Overall appearance of hotel is stylish with beautiful lobby and comfortable rooms. However, service was deplorable, specifically housekeeping. First night, they took my soap away and did not replace it for the remainder of the stay (I ended up using shower gel to wash my hands). They refused to clean any of the mugs that were used for the in room coffee/ tea setup. Towels were not replaced, you simply made do with what was left over. I didn't bother complaining to management: it was clearly an ongoing issue. Wouldn't stay here again although I did like the room! (Bang and Olufsen TV was a treat even though the screen was small).
