“location is great”

Location cannot be beat! Right above the main Osaka train station. Rooms are clean but nothing to write home about.

“Won't be going back”

Both the beds and the pillows were so hard and old that you couldn't get a good nights sleep. For the price of this hotel I would have expected comfortable beds. Location was great.

“Central location with attentive service! Cant beat it.”

This hotel should definitely be in your consideration if you are going to Osaka. Unless you are on your honeymoon, this hotel will be a perfect choice for travellers who care more about mobility and ease of in and out of the location. The room size is decent as well...it is NOT a closet, but the bathroom vanity could be bigger and use more surface space. They should also provide a iron and iron board in each room. There is a small fridge which is useful to store all those goodies from the food court in the same complex. Also, another complain would be the uncomfortably bulky antiquated skeleton keys they give as the room key.....hello...key cards?? But generally, the room will just pass acceptable levels. The main draw is the location...right next to the JR subway, and next to all the shops, restaurants, dept stores,...you name it...you are in the middle of it...all walking distance. If you need to go to Kobe, Kyoto, Nara...its only 1 stop away from Shin-Osaka. (the major shinkansen station to other major cities)....the station you are next to is Osaka station...which is more to connect locally within osaka subway system. (not the bullet train). So, conclusion....yes, i will stay here again due to convinience. Romantic...not really.

“Disappointed by a dingy and smoky room”

I had stayed in a Granvia Hotel previously with no problem and expected something fairly decent. My single room was dingy and smoky. ( I was allocated a smoking room despite having asked for a non-smoking room. I could not remember at the time whether I had specified a preference and had a busy itinerary and so did not make a fuss at the time ). Not only was it a smoking room but you could even smell smoke in the mattress. The area is very convenient for access to Osaka station (but remember that this is not the shinkansen station) and certain department stores. The flip side of that is that it is very crowded and busy.

“I returned for a second stay”

This is not an American Hote chainl. But they work well with non-domestic / international travelers. Rooms are smaller than we're accustomed to etc. However, If your looking for a central location, in the heart of Osaka, this is your spot. Reasonalble rates for the location. I returned two years after my first stay and the hotel is very consistent to my previous stay. The hotel chain is worth checking out in other cities.

Area recommendations
Check out, Namba, for lights, shopping and food, Kyobashi, for Osaka castle, park and localized food. Central Osaka for food and electronics shopping. Lots to see and do and the variety of options can become overwelming.

“Excellent Service”

Hotel Granvia Osaka is located in an excellent position for easy train and subway access. My room was larger than I expected so that was a bonus. The staff were very helpful when asked for directions to the subway station I required and even went outside the hotel to show me where I needed to go. I was unable to get into my room when I checked in as it was too early but when I returned from my business appointments my luggage had already been placed in my room which was extremely helpful to me.

Friendly staff, great location - central to everything you need or easy to get to, rooms clean and had everything you'd expect in a quality hotel.

“Comfortable, friendly, and great location!”

This hotel was located right on top of the major Osaka Station train station and there's an entrance from directly in the station (even if you have to wander to find it a little). There are numerous restaurants to choose from in the hotel, all different in type of food and price. The train station is also full of food, shops, etc. The hotel staff was very friendly - some tiny little lady grabbed my heavy bags and key and took me to my room. The negative I saw (and felt) was the pillow on the bed - it was like a rock with a pillowcase on it - it had no give at all and was a tiny little brick of a thing. Aside from that, it was a very comfortable and pleasant stay.

“Make Hotel Granvia a top choice in Osaka”

I had a very pleasant stay at the Hotel Granvia. I would have stayed longer but I waited to long to try to extend my stay and they were booked up, so I had to move. The hotel is impeccably clean. It's about two blocks from the Shinsiabashi shopping mall. A little tip--the Daimaru department store has a money exchange counter in the basement. It's confusing because Daimaru is in two buildings adjacent to one another and accessible from the mall. Another little tip--if you call down to the desk in the hotel and ask for something in English (like extending your stay) and the person has trouble understanding you and then gives you a curt "full", wait a half hour and talk to another desk clerk; I discovered, when I extended my stay the first time, that the guy I talked to took the easy way out--his English wasn't so good, so he told me they were full to get rid of me; they weren't really; I'm glad I was persistent. The women desk clerks speak better English than the guys. I would definitely use this hotel again. I highly recommend it. Good value for the price.

Area recommendations
Shinsiabashi is a good area to soak up the local flavor and find lots of eating places. Tip, as you are walking through the north/south mall, if you see a sushi place with a big tank of fish out in front (on the west side) go eat there. I ate there about half a dozen times. They have the plastic replicas of dishes in the front window, so if you don't speak Japanese you can just take the greeter out in front and point to what you want. I ate there at lunch each time and ordered the "lonch setto" which is the lunch meal. Good, fresh sushi.
Nightlife
On Saturday evenings along Shinsaibashi, especially by the bridge, you may see musical groups. I saw one, a Japanese group, that played amazing "Irish" music. You might as well buy their CD there because it isn't any cheaper on the web--don't know why CDs are so expensive in Japan.
