"Perfect location - relaxing but close enough."
I have been staying at the Hotel New Otani for over 5 years. It offers the perfect location close to the Osaka Castle, and close to the Kyobashi train station on the Keihan and JR Line. Rooms are nice and spacious, and very clean, restaurants fantastic (albeit pricey), and does have a fitness center. It's one of my top 2 hotels in the Osaka area. I would describe it as a perfect home-base to initiate all your day travels from.

"Stunning traditional building, onsen, and garden"
Only 40min by train from central Osaka (Namba), but virtually in the country. This traditional, and very photogenic Japanese inn with attached onsen, surrounded by a beautiful formal garden, is embedded in a narrow valley covered in forest with few other buildings in the vicinity. The external sliding doors of the marble-lined onsen can be opened to the outside air and views of the garden. The rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, clean, and quiet. We had an excellent, reasonably priced kaiseki dinner in the Japanese-style dining room looking out into the garden. There was also a great selection of locally made craft goods for sale at bargain prices. The staff were very helpful, and spent some time working out the best way for us to get to Kansai airport for an early morning flight.

"Very friendly staff!"
We had a night's stay in this hotel. We got a traditional room with a private bath. It was very comfortable for 5 persons. We went down to the outdoor baths too. Nice! The meals were awesome too! In the morning after check out, we had a shuttle bus to ferry us to the nearest subway station. There are only 4 trips per day and had to book. We missed it when we went to the hotel so we took a public bus instead. There are at least 2 buses that leads to the hotel. The bus stops right outside the hotel. Accessible.

"Nice hotel but located long way from the city"
Could not fault the hotel facilities or quality of the staff. The only drawback was its location in a somewhat desolate docklands precinct. This was partly overcome by a free bus service between the hotel and Osaka Station. The rooftop bar has a stunning view of the city.
